I don't give a crap about surround sound. I do not want surround sound. Quite frankly just one speaker would do me fine for all the sounds in a film.

But I presume I need some kind of amp to handle sound output as projectors arent known for projecting sound all that much.

Is there something fairly cheap that can handle that? It would be idea (if you ask me) if I could have my TV give out the sound and still have the nice huge projector image.

Assuming you're outputting from a blu ray player, a simple stereo amp would do. There are many knocking around on eBay

If money is tight, a pair of amplified computer speakers such as the more expensive ones sold by creative would do the job. Years back I pimped my NICAM TV by using a set of 40 quid Creative Soundworks speakers plugged in via the TV's headphone socket.

I can't really help but I can add that I saw a friends HD Projector playing Borderlands at 1080p (I think) on about a 2m wide projection and it was stunning.

Of course my London flat doesn't even have 2m of wall to project on.

EDIT: Oh, and he had it connected up to his HiFi. Dunno how. Not that that helps.

What you are plugging into it is important, but for most basic stuff a set of PC speakers should be fine.

Actually if you're fine with mono then a nice active studio monitor might be an ideal option.

Not cheap though

Though now I need to get a new TV as my old one was stolen this evening. It would probably be connected to a PS3. I can always have that output sound with the multi cable.

I'm not sure what projector at the minute but I know someone who knows these things.

I know I said it on Twitter but being bulged is proper shit! I really feel for you.

With any luck they'll try and sell you stuff to you on your stall so you can nab em!

Bummer about the burglary, at this point I usually jump into my story about my break-in and the complete fucking incompetence of the Police, but i'll spare you :D

I have a Full-HD projector, an Optoma HD something or other. I mainly use it for films and I do the occasional gaming on it, it's far too large for most games, but is great for driving sims.

I'd love to see a ZX81 or VCS display on a huge wall. :)

I'm struggling to understand why a massive HD projector is required, but surround sound is not. In my mind, surround sound vastly enhances a film over HD, any day. :S

I must say, I agree with Myp.
I suppose it's personal taste, though.

I think a massive projector and surround sound are about as good as each other.

However, surround sound is a lot cheaper.
