Hmm, I got bored after a bit in the first one. But then I'm generally not a fan of games that relentlessly play on claustrophobia, I always want to get to a section where I break out into a big area.

I only played the demo of 1 and the demo of 2.
Id like to get into it, but it seems so relentless and difficult I got sick of dying.
It felt like resident evil, but with enemies that would be in an on the rails shooter, but didnt die easily, and there was loads more of them...

There was a huge emphasis on slowing enemies down by removing their legs in the first one, and presumably it'll still be a strong theme in the sequel. Did they convey that at all in the demo?

The demo for the first was a bit mental, it just threw you in at the deep end.

The actual game's a fair bit easier. In fact I'm pretty sure the demo room features later on in it & was nowhere near as bad. Odd.

I want this a lot, as I was also gay for the first one, but as there's only money for games or beer, I'll be getting it when it's cheap.
Besides, I've got Mass Effect to finish and ME2 (which the fucking C&VG review of Dead Space 2 spoiled the beginning of for me) to play yet.

The first one is definitely in my top five "current gen" games.

Yeah, the demo for the first game was horrible. Probably the worst demo on Xbox Live. No wonder the game didn't sell as well as it should have, I certainly never would have bought it if not for comments made on this forum.

Yeah, I hated the demo for the first game as well. It was too hard. I dont think I actually got it until several months after it was released but the actual game itself was so good I played through it once and immediately reloaded it on completion just so I could mete out some serious ass kicking with all my upgraded weapons. Fucking awesome game.

I'll definitely be getting it but finances dictate that I will have to wait until it's fallen off a cliff price wise much like the first one did.

The first one was so good I still get annoyed about the Eurogamer review. Tits.

I got the impression the demo put you in that room and just overwhelmed you with enemies til you died and it was impossible.
Was it actually possible to survive the demo? its absolutely turned me off and other folk i know..

FWIW I also found the demo for DS2 very difficult....

FWIW I also found the demo for DS2 very difficult....

As has been pointed out, I think the demo drops you into a section several hours into the game and is off-putting in it's toughness because you don't know how to play the game. It put me off getting the game initially, but I'm glad I did in the end. It starts much more gently, it is tough though, but satisfyingly so. Just pay attention to the tutorials for all the weapons and aids, unlike me, who didn't read one screen for the stasis power-up and got to Chapter 5 before I realised it could be used to slow down enemies as well! When you play it yourself, you'll realise why I was seriously considering redrafting the game on "easy" [facepalm]

Definately looking forward to getting this. About the only thing I hated about Dead Space was the final level shifting that big pointy relic thing about on rails while being attacked. And doing this while raising a bridge or pressing a button to move the relic on. Pointless ran-out-of-ideas tedium. Thankfully it didn't last too long.

Here's hoping that this will be the Resident Evil 5 that Resident Evil 5 wasn't.

How does this compare to DS1?

I loved the game engine from the first game - and the convenient blue line thing - but I hated the game intensely due to the missions.

Fix the power.
Fix the air supply.
Fix the trams.
Fix the asteroid shields.
Clear out a big jobbie from the men's bogs.
Fix the gravity generator.
Wipe up some grafitti in the bridge.

"The vending machine just swallowed my 50p can you battle over here and fix it"

Fucking game should have been called Space Janitor. It had tonnes of potential though.

I'd say RE5 and 4 are very much cut from the same cloth. Now, it's a different cloth to the older Resident Evil games, admittedly, but as the games are palpably better I don't mind that one bit.

Hmm. RE4 hooked me from the start and I played through it twice. RE5 felt like I was being hampered too much for playing it in single-player so I stopped after less than an hour in.

I've completed RE4 twice and RE5 about three times, once (ish) solo and twice co-op. I don't think it's as compromised in single player as people seem to think it is.

But I'd still say that the singler player in Resident Evil 4 was something special ("100% funability" - Up to Jump) whereas Resident Evil 5 was merely servicable. Mercenaries (especially in two player) is absolutely awesome - don't think I've ever had so much fun with one of the tacked on extras of a videogame.

Oh my. I didn't realise pad support on a PC game could be so seamless. You switch your pad on, launch the game, and not only are all of the controls configured for you (in, presumably, the same mapping as the Xbox version), but the menus and in-game interface change to show your pad buttons instead of clickable buttons.

As for the game, I promised I'd wait on playing it until Miss Malabar is here. I love having a girlfriend who not only plays games, but is happy to watch me play them. But I did have a brief go to see how my PC could cope (so far, perfectly, on the highest settings at 1680 x 1050, or whatever it is) and, as someone else noted, died pretty quickly when the non-obvious QTE popped up. Sloppy, but I'll live with it.

I'm really impressed. Last time I tried to use a pad with a PC game, it was a right ball-ache, and still required mouse input anyway. This just turns my computer into an Xbox with better visuals, albeit with the possible sacrifice of friends support.

Now, is this limited to connecting my 360 pad, or would it be as good with actual PC pads? Not that I particularly care too much now I have this receiver, of course.
