OK, wandering through the GG&S thread got me thinking. Personally, I always feel a bit 'dirty' looking at porn; although I don't make a massive habit of it (honest guv), I must confess I do occasionally enjoy perusing 'happy porn' as I think Grim... referred to it as - real people having and crucially enjoying 'real' sex.

I don't really know why; I suppose it's a mixture of upbringing, religion, natural shyness in such matters and the worry at the back of my mind that some people will probably have been exploited and/or coerced one way or another in the production of said mucky video clips, you know, the proverbial smackhead girl, prostitute or whatever. Plus at my age (early 40s), I do feel a bit of a dirty old man ogling women 20 or so years younger than myself. Or am I being ridiculous?

It's not as though I judge anyone else about viewing porn (at least, stuff like this; not sure about the really 'nasty' stuff that's undoubtedly out there); I'm a man of the world, afterall. But it's not something I'd like my kids to know I occasionally do - which again rather begs the question why, and I'm not sure I even know the answer.

Any thoughts/views?

The way I see it, as a girl and I was once a teenager not so long ago (lolz)....If you don't like it, you don't do it. You might try it and think the boy you're trying it with loves you and will be woth you forever, which is no different to how it's ever been, is it? You always feel pressured in to doing things you're not sure of as a teenager, peer pressure reigns supreme...but once you've had a go and you think "Actually I don't like smoking/drinking/anal/facials" you don't feel the need to do it again. The fact children are expecting to fuck a pornstar the first time they have sex, just shows how sex education should move on to deal with that change in attitude.

Dunno, man. All I do know is that people basically think porn is what sex should be like (obviously not in all cases, but you know what I mean. You still have the sluts and the prudes, but the ordinaries have all taken one step toward the sluts).
I'm not sure it's all bad - there's nothing wrong with being broad-minded about sex, and there's less grief about thinking (or knowing) that you're gay.

My eldest boy is 11, I'm pretty sure he was quite naive about the whole thing (as he should be), he knew about reproduction and such but his sex ed. class is full of children with older brothers, obviously. The questions he was asking me after his first secondarg school sex ed. lesson shocked me, greatly. He's 11, he hasn't started puberty but already they're discussing blow jobs and who goes on top, it's curiousity on his part but it opened my eyes to how frank they are about it now....it just seems a bit soon for children that age. At 14 I could understand!

I can't say I feel especially guilty when looking at porn, but I'd much rather watch something where all participants seem to be genuinely enjoying themselves. As others have said, a lot of porn these days is actually fairly unpleasant.

That said, despite what everyone here must think, I do have terribly prudish views regarding sex, I'm practically Victorian about it. I've only actually got two notches on my bedpost, both of whom were from long-term relationships and I'm more than happy with that. My gf, on the other hand, doesn't share my views and doesn't see why there'd be any issue in sleeping with someone you've only just met.

Following this trend, presumably it'll only be another 15-20 years before fourth base is DVDA.

I genuinely knew nothing about sex when I was 11. Aside from what I'd picked up from the playground and TV/Movies, natch.

After my first day of secondary school, an older kid who I knew asked me if there were any 'shaggable' girls in my class and I was utterly mystified as to what he meant.

I dunno if that's true - a lot of porn is becoming more niche because mainstream is hugely saturated, so people who upload and people who watch it rarely bother with "normal" porn any more. I'd imagine 95% of porn on the net is fine (depending on your definition of fine, of course).

I saw that as well. But what other frame of reference are they honestly going to have? Nowadays, there's sex shops on the high streets, and all sorts of other influences.

I've given this some thought, and I think there's basically a couple of things:

1) O tempora, o mores

2) I think that if teenagers are going to have sex, then they might as well have good sex and enjoy it. You're not going to stop it, and you might as well try and knock Nelson's Column (great analagy there -Ed)(Heh, you too -Mali)down with a fly swatter rather than attempt. I also have trouble with the idea of girls being 'pressured' into sex during their teenage years. By trouble I mean 'completely don't understand' as I've never really been a teenage girl. However, I'm quite comfortable with the idea that if women want sex, then they are able to go and get it. I think it is an outdated idea for anyone to wrap their daughter up in the swaddling of virgin ideologies and the ideals virtuous women are, quite rightfully, being eroded. I'm finding it tricky to articulate what I mean in a decent fashion at present, so don't think I'm being all 'women nowadays are slags' as I'm not.

I've no doubt that women are every bit the same as they've always been with regards to 'doing what they want'. For example, Adam asks Amanda to do anal. @ Mali - I think it basically boils down to some people (i.e. guys) seemly having a problem understanding that women can have a sex drive that's equal, indeed superior to any man's, for one (IMO) spurious reason or another, and if they do, they are shunned whereas a guy is 'one of the lads'. My ex wants Zioette to go to a Catholic school, like she did, when she gets older.
