A lot of car talk today, so i'm going to propose a little trip out later this year, if anyone is interested. It won't be for a fair few months, but while I have it in my head :)

I have a track car, a little MX5 with a few tasteful modifications :D Occasionally I take it out and throw it around a local track for a day.
Would anybody be interested in coming along?

I'm planning to do a few track days this summer, and it's always more fun to do it with people than alone :hat:
If people are interested, then i'm sure we could set something up for people to come along and bring their own cars to throw around too, or anyone is free to have passenger rides in my MX5 or drive it on track themselves.

A few points:
I suggest we pick a novice day, so nobody feels intimidated.
You can take any car you like on track, you will have fun regardless of the power and type
You are welcome to take my MX5 out but I reserve the right to say "give me my fucking car back you spacka" if you drive like a twat :D
Track days cost between £100-200 to take a car out, plus fuel etc... and between £5-20 to come along as a passenger.
You will need a helmet, but can hire them at most tracks.
Track insurance is generally not used, the way it goes is that every pays for their own damage. However, accidents are rare, i've only seen 3 and 2 of those were down to people driving like twats.
Bedford Autodrome is the likely location, very novice friendly, loads of run off room, nothing to hit trackside, a great track layout and it's close to my house :)
I need to fix the bushes and tracking on my MX5 before we do this, i've been meaning to do this for the past 2 years ;) If I don't do this I'll still take the MX5 out, but it is a real handful at the moment so wouldn't be ideal for novices to drive...

Thoughts, questions?

That's ok, you're not allowed to race on a Track day. :D

I should have mentioned that, a track day is not a race, you will get kicked out if you are racing, timing runs etc...

I keep meaning to do a bike trackday but haven't gotten around to buying the one-piece race leathers they all insist on.

Is this the sort of thing an incompetent driver with a 1996 VW Polo could attend?

Probably not allowed to chip it, either ;)

Meh, I could be up for this, especially if it's Oulton - I can actually hear the track from my house so it'd be beers afterwards at Cavey Manor. :D

Seriously though, this would be a laugh over the summer - perhaps I could give the Cayman or Speed Triple a bash. :)

I'd love to, but my car's too heavy, it wouldn't be any fun ;)

Aw, come off it man. I've said innumerable times that I myself had a Clio 172 and I loved it more than any car I've ever owned, before or since, Cayman included. Stop sulking. :D

Yeah, I'm up for this. I'd probably bring the GT-Four although if my MX5's up to snuff at the time (and I still have it!) then that might get a look in.

I assume you need to be able to drive to enjoy this?

Or just be a back-seat driver, or shout out "HARD LEFT" and all that gubbins. ;)

I reckon there's fun to be had for non drivers, too.

You could hold the coats, for example :)

I don't reckon my car's good enough for this anyway.

Live in Oulton do you? I was up there a few months ago for one of the Drift Days they do there, would have been a good laugh if I hadn't fucked my neck muscles up the day before.

You will need a valid driving licence to drive, but passengerising is as much of a laugh at times :D

If I'm free, I'll certainly try and come along, if only to put names to faces and send any photographs to the police.

I don't own a car. It belongs to the missus. She just lets me drive it. *Shame*

GzChap took me around Silverstone a couple of times in his car, and that was ace. So, no, not really.

I don't think I've got anything suitable to bring, though, even though taking the 306 is really, really tempting.

Oh yes, one other thing to mention, driving my MX5 is most likely an option for the less "robust" members. They are not the most roomy car in the world! :D

I don't think I'll make it but I really want to see the video of the pile-up at the first corner as everyone just piles into each other like a bunch of massive joeys.

I'll go to Cates party afterwards. But only if Frank Bough is going.

I'd be OK, as, due to having both a turbo AND an intercooler, I'm handicapped, to give everyone else a chance, by having them on a 306.

S'alright, I know a farmer who lives nearby so we could all drag our cars onto the road and then phone the police and say there's been a bit of an accident...
