We've talked about this before, but I really do think it's high time we actually did it. I doubt it would be of interest to anyone that isn't on here, but I think a collection of our best work in physical form would be a really lovely thing to have.

What I suggest is that people comb through the 'Pictures I have etc' thread, and PM me thread links to the ones you think are really outstanding (to avoid people sulking that X person didn't choose their picture etc). I'll then turn that into a poll of sorts to choose our favourite 20 or so pics, then contact the owners for high res versions to turn into printed format. In the meantime i'll look at options and coatings for getting something printed up.

Feel free to nominate from other threads or members' Flickr accounts etc, of course.

Cheers!

Instructions for submitting your pics wrote:
The microsite is here: http://pics.from.beex.co.uk/ and thumbnail view is http://pics.from.beex.co.uk/archive

  1. Open your email client
  2. PM Doctor Glyndwr for the address to send the email to
  3. Attach a single[1] JPG to the email, any resolution you want
  4. If you like, write a caption in the subject line
  5. Important: after any caption, in the subject line of the email, write #<beex_name> but without any spaces. This is so we can tell who took each picture! For example, I would write #doctorglyndwr. Mimi would be #mimi. And so on.

What this tumblr is for: collating the best of our images to put into physical form.

What this tumblr is not for: replacing the "pics I took with my camera" thread. Best to keep new content on the forum proper, first and foremost. This is just a repost service.

Final note: it should go without saying, but just in case: by following this process, you're not giving up any copyright over your image, but you are implicitly agreeing that we can reproduce them to print a calendar or beex book or something to that effect. If rights over the image are important to you, probably best not to submit them at all. On a related note, probably best to only submit your own pictures, unless you've asked the owner first.

[1] you can attach up to five if you want, and Tumblr will make a single post with all the pics in a little animated slideshow; might be simpler if we just stick to one post per pic though.

For getting a photo book printed, the new iPhoto book options are pretty snazzy, and you can individually choose book size, hardback, softback etc...

We got Mummy Afterthought a diary filled with photos of (mostly you, in fact - MrsA) the family from PhotoBox and it was pretty neato. £18 I think it was.

I think Craster has a good idea, here.

I'm not posing for one of those "Hotties of BeeX Get Naked" calendars, if that's what you're thinking.

My uncle and I each bought an electronic frame for my Nan and Grandad. I bought the one for my Nan, he got one for Grandad, who had then moved into a care home.

I contacted every single member of the family and got pictures of everyone - uncles and aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.

My uncle, having sent me pictures of himself to add to the frame I was doing as per my request, then filled his frame with 400 photographs of himself, all from the same boring trip to Egypt. About 30% were loaded on sideways.

My uncle used to complain it wasn't always on, until my grandad said 'but it's just YOU, David - mum's is nice because it has everyone on it. This one is just hundreds of pictures of your face'. We were all there as it was grandad's 99th birthday. Many guffaws. He propped a picture of me and Craig up in front of it from then on and never switched it on.

Ah, I miss my grandad.

It's a great idea, but there are so many to choose from in the photo thread alone, nevermind the stuff that's on Flickr accounts etc. It might be better to have a submissions process to narrow it down, say up to 5 of your own and then let everyone vote on those...maybe?

It's fantastic looking through that pic thread and seeing how people have improved along the way.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea, actually. Considering I've had bupkiss so far - I figured reading through the whole pictures thread would be a bit of a challenge.

DO THAT THEN! Send me up to five of your own pictures to be reviewed for inclusion. Feel free to still send other peoples' too, of course.

I have a suggestion; register a temporary tumblr or posterous account for these, and share the "post by email" address with anyone on here who wants it. Then all people need to do is email the pics as attachments to the special email address, and it'll make a little microsite with all the pics on. Choose a theme that makes an image gallery and you're in good shape with almost no effort.

I figured I'd let people say what they thought was a great photo, and see if a theme fell out, rather than the other way round.

Only restriction is that it was taken by a beexer.

Looking through the photo thread, there's already a reasonable indication of photos that we thought were good. Maybe it would be a start to select those which received positive comments?

But if people nominated five of their own photos then that could be counted as giving consent?

Maybe it would make more sense therefore, to stick to asking people to nominate only their own pictures (5 of) and take it from there?

http://pics.from.beex.co.uk/ here's the site.

Shall I post the email address publically? Might not be a good idea -- anything emailed to it will be automatically posted, without approval, so it's not a good thing to get on spam lists etc. But perhaps sending it out via PMs would be a faff...?

Aw, shit - this is really hard! Can't decide which are my faves!

Kicking off with discounting ones that might not look quite so awesome hi-res, even if it does mean abandoning my beloved 'shafts of light punching through heavy cloud at Lake Tahoe' one.

Hmm, maybe the Green Birdbath Deco Spray one.

Or the Ice Sculpture one.

Or the Smith Rock one.

Or the Early to Rise bed and table one.

ARGH.

*Bzzt!* *Whir!* (Goes into odd spasms trying to spot barrel distortion in photos and thus discount them...)

Maybe Redmond Pumpkins. It would be good for a calender!

Hello! It just wouldn't be Beex if someone didn't come along with suggestions after everything is set up ;)
First off - wouldn't it be better to put the email address into a forum which you have to be logged in to read (the mafia scum one, basically) and then just linking to it?
Second off - how come it's important to put your name on the pictures? Credits can easily be shouted about once the final photos are chosen.

Looking back through some of the pictures that I *thought* were good, I am disappoint. Most of the ones I took with my old Samsung are not fit for printing as the small detail is not great.

Ah well.

I uploaded all 5 of mine last night with the #Zardoz in the subject line as requested.

Your site is :belm:

Is there a size limit btw? I attached the originals and I see only the shot taken with my compact has made it through. You did say any resolution, before you say anything. The biggest was a smidge over 10mb.

Is there a size limit btw? I attached the originals and I see only the shot taken with my compact has made it through. You did say any resolution, before you say anything. The biggest was a smidge over 10mb.
How disappointing. I suppose there must be, although I've never hit it before. What email service did you use? Some will refuse to send emails with attachments over a certain size (although you generally get a warning, not a silent failure).

Google shows nothing solid, although there is some speculation that the limit might be 10mb. That's pretty big for a JPG though.

Looking back through some of the pictures that I *thought* were good, I am disappoint. Most of the ones I took with my old Samsung are not fit for printing as the small detail is not great..

I imagine there could be some flexibility regarding using smaller images for any where a larger image would reveal a lack of detail.
