Correct me if I go wrong because this is fucking confusing.

DVB-T = regular definition freeview.

DVB-S = high definition freeview?

""" " " = same?

God knows. I'm looking for a PCIE card that will do Freeview HD on my PC. I've found this one

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200485?ut ... m=products

Which is DVB-S. Does that mean I could plug an aerial into it and watch hi def freeview?

God it's all so damned confusing :S

Edit. Oh fuck wait, is DVB-S freesat and needs a dish or something?

Definitions of DVB-S on the Web:

* DVB-S is the original Digital Video Broadcasting forward error coding and modulation standard for satellite television and dates from 1994, in its first release, while development lasted from 1993 to 1997. ...

Definitions of DVB-S2 on the Web:

* Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite - Second Generation (DVB-S2) is an enhanced specification to replace the DVB-S standard, developed in 2003 and ratified by ETSI (EN 302307) in March 2005. The development of DVB-S2 coincided with the introduction of HDTV and H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) video codecs.

So what the titties do I need to watch Freeview HD through my aerial on my fookin' PC?

OK apparently I need DVB-T2

I'll be back :facepalm:

HD through an aerial is a tough one anyway - if you're using a portable aerial, even a £50 plugged-in one, forget it, and if you're using a proper roof aerial, chances are HD isn't available in your area yet - we can't get it until 2012 apparently. If you're using an old satellite dish for Freesat it's a different story of course. But yeah, check your postcode can get Freeview HD through an aerial to avoid crippling disappointment.

Apparently nothing exists on the PC that can do it and our satelite dish is still in use.

Ah well, fuck it. Will find myself a decent PCIE card that doesnt keep dissapearing all the time and make do with regular freeview.

Edit. Oh fuck off 8)

Freeview HD available: 2012

If you upgrade to Freeview HD, these channels will become available

* BBC 1 HD2012
* BBC HD2012
* ITV 1 HD2012
* Channel 4 HD2012

To view these HD channels you will need an HD ready TV and a Freeview HD digital box or digital TV recorder or a TV with Freeview HD built in.

Regular it is then. Twats.

Oddly I just remembered that. Then I found this.

http://www.wegotserved.com/2010/09/04/i ... -tuner-pc/

Which is about £70. Useless, though. I'm gonna try and find a Terratec Sinergy dual PCIE card.

There's still a place for live telly. See for example, live sport, or "television events" where it benefits to watch it at the same time as everyone else, such as Dr Who on Christmas day or whatever. Plus, you can't get everything on on-demand.

I guess I was mainly wondering what the advantage/use of dedicate hardware is.
