My favourite three songs are as follows:

3) Jona Lewie - Stop the Cavalry
Not a proper Christmas song, but full of rum pa pum pum.

2) Chris de Burgh - A Spaceman Came Travelling
"na na na na, na na na, na na na!"
I remember at primary school two girls did a performance dance thing in assembly to this song and it was ace.

1) Shakin Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
My absolute fave ever; helped by the fact it doesn't come on as much as some others. I cannot truly feel christmassy until I hear this played on the radio. Led to a nearly ruined Christmas one year when I managed to not hear it until Christmas eve.

So what are your favourite Christmas songs or songs that make you feel christmassy?

Fairytale of New York. One of the single best songs ever, let alone christmas.

Any posts that do not reiterate this are rendered void.

Gotta love Fairytale of New York.

But my absolute faves are the old crooner style ones. Y'know "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "White Christmas", "Let it Snow" etc.

Mainly because years of singing along to them have left me with a passable baritone :P

Ditto. I have a couple of CDs of 40s/50s Christmas music. It's like Christmas in Fallout.

Ignoring 'Fairytale', as everyone loves it and yes it is awesome...

"Mele Kalikimaka (Christmas in Hawaii)" is my other favourite. There are many versions out there, and KT Tunstall's is surprisingly awesome.

Also, 'Simply Having a Wonderful Xmastime' and '2000 Miles' are good.

Our local shopping centre have been playing Gary Glitter's 'Rock N' Roll Christmas' too often for me to not think it's deliberate.

Merry Christmas Everyone
Fairytale of New York
And the utterly magnificent Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses is my number one.

Watch this and marvel at the incredible lyrics

It's so lovely it makes me want to cry. Really.

I never knew it was such a depressing song!

Mainly because the lyrics are incomprehensible.

1: Bing and Bowie - The Little Drummer Boy
The absolute best Christmas song.

2: Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
Awesome, cheesy pop. Can't help but love it really.

3: The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Just class, as everyone else has said.

Heh, I listened to a very 'Fallout' Christmas tune on Radio 2 this morning. Needs me some of that shit.

We must have been posting at exactly the same time as your post definitely wasn't there when I was posting. I did spend a few minutes tracking down the video I wanted though. Via Spice Girls and some other person.

So not only do great minds think alike, they think alike at the same time.

I like Fairytale, Christmas Wrapping and Kylie's version of Santa Baby, which sounds a lot like I'd imagine she sounds when she's trying to convince (ha!) someone to go to bed with her.

I do have a soft spot for All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey. But that's because she looked really porkable in that red jumpsuit.

Yes! Christmas Wrapping is good.

As is "Driving Home for Christmas"

But the underrated classic is "I want an alien for Xmas" by Fountains of Wayne

Heh, my girlfriend really liked that until I pointed out the significance of the line "Don't let the bells end, just let them ring peace." The video for that was pretty good too.

I hate that song. My hatred stems from having it on the store tapes at Christmas when I worked at GAME... over and over again.

I work in retail, so most Christmas music can fuck right off. My store does liven things up a bit by playing some utterly weird stuff - the drum & bass version of Little Drummer Boy causes quite a few puzzled looks from customers, likewise the techno remix of Bing Crosby singing The First Noel. And Hip Hop Santa of course, which manages to rhyme "Christmas" with "LA Isthmus".

Oh, and Fairytale of New York is the best, obviously.

Here's Bing. (Attaboy House Remix, apparently).

Damned if I can find the other two though... I suspect they're more than a little bit obscure (either that or I'm just shit at searching for stuff).

Right! Some non-standard Christmas music for you.

The restroom door said gentlemen
Sarah McLachlan - Full of Grace
Bob & Doug McKenzie - The 12 Days of Christmas
The Pipettes - A Winter's Sky
Weird Al - Christmas at Ground Zero (ignore the weird video)
Wesley Willis!
Dr. Elmo - Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (Irish Rovers version is better IMHO)

I am astonished nobody has mentioned Chris Rea. Yes, it's perhaps overplayed, but I do tend to hear it in the car as I'm doing just that, and it cheers me up a lot.

Perhaps I shouldn't really be negative, but I don't like Christmas, and one of the myriad reasons is dog damn Christmas songs. There's not one I can think of that I like.
