our local post office got shut down - it was a kiosk in the local shop and it cost them a grand total of 12k a year to keep open the very next week they spent 1.5 million pounds re-designing the main post office in town and put in one of those take a ticket systems. There are about 20 counters with a maximum of 4 of them open at all times. Bastards.

Currently waiting for Argos, amazon (4 seperate packages sent out at different times) and overclockers - tracking info for the latter two are showing as out for delivery and argos is from 7am-6pm.

/le sigh.

I think there a code on the box somewhere they can use, so don't throw it away.
Naturally, I forgot to do this and probably threw the box out along with all the others now the move is pretty much done - but you go to amazon.co.uk/packaging and it lists the recent orders to rate and upload a photo against.

So I should do that, now I have computatars and innernehs.

2/6 things have turned up, not overclockers and not argos (I live 5 mins away form the bloody depot so I'm guessing I'm last unless it gets to 6:01pm and they decide to clock off and deliver tomorrow.) overclockers tracking has been mocking me all day with it's "out for delivery" message. Fed Ex turned up half an hour ago for my neighbour fffffffffffffffff. God damn it. If the presents don't turn up today and it snows tomorrow my kids will have about 3 presents each.

Every year I promise myself I'm going to order pressies early to avoid delivery hassles... And every year I wait till a week before Christmas to even think about getting my brother something.

Overclockers chap just showed up, I was most concerned because he was throwing large boxes filled with other people's computer gubbins around the van with abandon and frustration while looking for my parcel.

Argos never showed, not sure if I should patently wait or phone up and complain. I actually booked the delivery for wednedsay rather than ticked any "show up at random" box.

Also I live 5 mins from the depot.

I know what's happened, I live 5 mins away from the depot, some drivers leave the ones nearest the depot till last and if you get a real shitheel of a driver they see 6:01 and can't be arsed to drop yours off before they clock off which can spiral into your delivery being put off day after day.

depot is a strange word.

I went out this morning and had a missed parcel card. No problem, I only live 5 minutes away from the depot.

I got there and it was shut due to a gas leak. Great. I've got to go back tomorrow and it's pretty much guaranteed that the other parcels I'm waiting for will come while I'm out.. again.

Nicely quoted... It's a 5 minute drive anyway, so it's further away than I make out... and the roads might be slippy... and dangerous.. so there. :p

I'm expecting 4 parcels, all despatched on the same day, 2 each from 2 vendors.

There was one parcel wedged behind a plant pot outside the front door this morning.

Interesting.

Every christmas I decide it'll be nice and easy to do my shopping online, and every christmas I'm forced to panic about whether stuff is actually going to turn up or not.
I've just had a box of books delivered which looks like someone has sat on them, although the contents appear to be ok.
I think I'm waiting on 6 other things, two of which have an Amazon estimated delivery date of last friday. ?:|

I haven't bought anything on-line this year, but then I've bought very few pressies as cash flow is a problem until I get my pension lump sum at the end of February.

A couple of years ago I bought all my pressies for ME on line, then gave them to Mrs. W to distribute to anyone who asked what I wanted for Christmas and give her the dosh to hand on to me.

I thought it was a genius idea as previously, people had had difficulty finding the obscure things I'd asked for. It worked, but it was frowned upon by the missus and a couple of other people, so I haven't repeated it. My biggest problem is knowing what to ask for as I have pretty much everything I need.

A second parcel was wedged in the same place when we got home. Opening them, it seems I was only expecting 2 parcels after all.

Hel is outraged and planning to complain to That Post on principle. I really can't be arsed because frankly it'll change nothing except the delivery and condition of further post. This juxtaposition of pointless, principled complaining is new and slightly disconcerting for me.

That's pretty pointless - complain to the people you bought it from. Insist that they make a complaint to the couriers.

Yesterday, about lunchtime, I ordered some stuff from Tesco Direct to be delivered to a local store*. They said it would be there after 4pm today. They've just texted my and said it would be late due to adverse weather conditions.

I'm pretty sure the main distribution centre for Tesco is in Widnes. *looks out of window*

No, I'm not. Hel is. But leaving reasonably large parcels outside the front door in plain view of the street in the cold and rain is pretty shitty.

The laptop I ordered from Tesco Direct came from Down South somewhere. They fucked up scanning it in and out of places so badly that nearly a fortnight after I collected it from the store (where they actually went to look for it instead of believing the computer), I got a text to say it would now be available to collect from Monday just gone. I didn't seriously consider going to get a free second laptop.

Something that was sent nearly three weeks ago by first class arrived today, having clearly been stood on and folded in three.

I am please to have just learned that 5p is being added onto the price of a first class stamp (rising from 41p to 46p in April) for this exemplary service.

Stuff was sent on the 8th and has only just arrived.

I really hope the stuff I ordered yesterday gets here more quickly.

Stuff we ordered recently has turned up pretty quickly, whereas something we ordered on the 8th still isn't here, so we cancelled.

Oddness.

Just found a 'sorry you were out' card left by the postie, for a number of items.

Should I amend it to its more accurate wording of:

"Sorry I couldn't be arsed to actually bring any of your items and so put this card through the box like a coward whilst you were siting around freezing cold having got up early because you were expecting me to actually bring some of the stuff you were expecting. I am also sorry that I couldn't be arsed to bring your stuff even though I have a van, whereas you, valued customer, shall have to walk the whole way across town, uphill in a foot of snow."

:?:

The worst thing is, the card has been pre filled out before he left the depot, which I know because he has filled all the details apart from the time in blue pen, but then stupidly left his blue pen somewhere and has had to fill out the time in red biro.

It's our regular postie, as I recognise his handwriting. I usually put £10 in a card for him for Christmas, but though I like the guy, he has stopped bothering with our mail.

I think there must have been a Royal Mail-wide memo: be cunty.

My last few Amazon deliveries have forced me to go to the depot to collect as 'parcel too big', despite easily fitting through my front door's mail slot.

Yes, I have had this problem too. Six small packets all held together with an elastic band. Why he can't just separate them and post them through one by one, I do not know.

I suspect they are not even taking the parcels out with them on the rounds, if they dump everything in the pick up place then it takes less time to sort and the postie can carry more regular mail - 9/10 the parcel would be too big so it's safe to put on the note.

To be fair I saw a Newsnight (I think) report which showed the posties now have to cover far longer rounds. So you may have the same postie but he may well have nearly twice as many houses to deliver to. So they start to cut corners. So on the one side he loses his tips but on the downside his job is under threat if he doesn't complete his round in a given time.
