Fuck knows. Probably "lots" but we need a steering group. Will look into it more tomorrow, but ferry, camping ticket, booze.

I need more research on it and can feed back to interested parties.

If I can somehow make a load of money between now & then I'd be up for it. I've talked about it for years but everyone shites out it at the last minute & decides to watch it on Eurosport instead :(

Anyway, this talk of Le Mans gives me an excuse to dig this out again :)

I could be interested, depending on the price.

Done that, was very good - watching cars' brakes light up at night is best, aim to be awake more then. If you are bad for hayfever, sleeping in a tent in French fields seems to be particularly bad for you. That is all I remember.

Ferry, race tickets and on track camping:

Quote:
Thursday & Friday departures
Returning Monday
£225.00 £115.00 Folkestone - Calais (Eurotunnel)
£239.00 £115.00 Dover - Calais (Ferry)
£259.00 £149.00 Hull - Rotterdam / Zeebrugge
£309.00 £149.00 Portsmouth / Poole / Plymouth Cherbourg / Caen / Roscoff

All prices per person based upon minimum of two per car, the second pre is the cost of adding a third or fourth person.

More stuff here

So, chucking in food, fuel and booze, I think £360-440 isn't too far from the mark.

Off circuit would be cheaper, I think, but I haven't looked into that.

From those prices, it would appear so, yes. I've never been on the Chunnel, but I like the ferry, as you can have a beer and a steak and look at the view and then you are in france.

That's a package being offered, but I've priced it up individually yet, as I'm far to busy and important to be doing that right now.

It's about 4 hours from Calais to Le Mans and about £30(?) on the toll roads, so call it about 5 hours on the RNs. it's quite simple to get there but Amiens can be a choke point.

The chunnel is mighty boring. But it is quicker and you can still have a beer, you're just in a hollowed out train or in the car.

(you have to bring your own beer)

Surely it's better to watch it on telly?

Watch it on the telly

OR

Go to France with your mates camping by a fucking racetrack for the weekend and get pissed whilst watching the cars go past. For 24 hours. And have a go on the fairground.

I'm beginning to suspect you are deliberately shunning our company.

How much is it just for the camping, or do you have to go for the whole package?

Dunno, not looked into that yet. On the advice of my lawyer about this, that not being on site isn't as good. Also, party all night as the V8's will wake you up a lot.

I've prebooked all the farmhouses in North Wales at considerable personal expense so mr Chris can't not come now. And Kalmar should come as i) he's awesome and ii) there's something about Audi running a hybrid.

And if the MaliMobile breaks down there it would be a EPIC viking funeral for it.

I'm almost sure you only pay 'per car' in the Tunnel, no matter how many people you cram into it.
[edit]You can get a car on it for < £90, too.

Actually, £225 quid for 4 nights camping, a return chunnel and race ticket is pretty pro. Unless I'm missing somehting stupid.

That's £225 per person, assuming 2 people.

So £450 for two.

As I said, that's the price on the first google hit, and there's 6 months to go, so i've not done exhaustive research.

That would be exceedingly generous, sir. one hopes it isn't too big of a tap.

I'm increasingly interested in this proposition. Campingwise, my personal view is that having paid to get there, and got in, the marginal cost to camp closer to the action and maximise entertainment opportunity is a sensible investment., although I know little of where is best.

I'll see if I can find anyone that knows of the best place to stay. Haven't really spoken to the lawyer since his daughter cruelly dumped me half way through a conveyancing transaction, but someone in ChavPub will probably know, with the motor racing connections around here.

I can't see me moving on this proper until mid January, mind you.

Isn't Le Mans really fucking boring though? I mean, 24 hours of cars going round the (spectator unfriendly) track, and track position doesn't matter, so there's bugger all chance of seeing anyone overtake anyone else.

FFS. There are only two events pencilled in my diary for 2011. The first is doing a Curiosity on the wife's birthday, and this one's on our wedding anniversary.

I suggest a steering (ha ha, I know) group convene over a few beers in a pub with a wireless connection and then we can argue about it a fair amount, and then book something there and then.
