OK, so in Bits and Bobs last week I posted that a picture of mine was in a picture contest. I got an email telling me to get folks to vote for me, but you had to do so by leaving a comment, so I understand that folks could not be bothered.

However, I made it to the final, and now you can vote just by ticking a box and pressing 'submit.'

Let me explain the contest, briefly.

A knitted toy designer has a yearly competition in which anyone who has knitted one of her toy patterns can upload them to Flickr. I knitted a couple of bats and added my picture to the Flickr pool, and it was selected as one of the entries.

The prize is for some knitterly goodies

If anyone has time to just have a look, please do. It is here My picture is the bat:

Mimi - So goth she knits bats. That's not right is it?

As I had time to make a crappy joke, I thought I'd better take the time to have a look and vote for you as well.

Done! There seem to actually be more entries in the final than there were in the nomination thing but never mind :)

PS, I saw some truly horrific things when looking on Rav for men's underwear patterns looking for a picture. All very much too skimpy and too much actual modelling of the garments.

It would never have occurred to me that such things would exist on there!

My bat vote has been cast. :)

Can you really buy glow in the dark yarn?

haha, yes, though I think you'd be hard pressed to find some in the UK. I think there are a few manufacturers that produce glowing yarn but Bernat springs to mind of one such company, but a quick Google seems to suggest that they have discontinued it. I had a look on Google to see if there were any other brands available in the UK, but I could only turn up results of people looking for the same thing and many people answering 'no'

No. You can possibly dye fluorescent colours that might show under UV light, but actual glow in the dark yarn isn't dyed that way. you can't get glow-in-the-dark dye. That's why none of the brands do glow in the dark wool, only acrylic. They make glow in the dark plastic and spin it out into fibre to make yarn with. You can't dye acrylic, see. Acrylic is coloured by making acrylic pellets of different colours and then turning that into fibre, then spinning that fibre. Wool is spun from fibre into yarn and THEN dyed. you can recreate the effect of dyeing at home, in small batches, but the industrial processes needed to make acrylic yarn aren't replicable on a small scale.

Ooh, I didn't know any of that. I like Miss Mimi the teacher. :)

I'm going to try and stick my head in the yarn shop later and see if they have any.

I got a small row counter that I'm going to make into a stitch marker and a metre of fabric to make Chloe a bag for nursery to keep her shoes in (she's been going in boots so we keep a pair permanently there).

I did not win. or come second or third, or gain the judges nod for being OK.

Nevermind.

Booo!

I do like the Snowman one, though. But I don't agree with second and third place; the judges' mention should have finished above those two for sure.

Unlucky, Meems.

Oh well, a bat of fun anyway.

Just spent hours trying in vain to work out a really awkward (for me) bit of jiggery pokery with website stuff and just figured it out, so the relief at finally having cracked that part makes up for it.

Strange, though. I am relieved and happy to have fixed it, slightly proud at having finally worked it out, but still slightly annoyed at the hours it took. I am not sure if it is a victory in that sense or not.
