My phone reckons it's 9:52. I don't think it does temperatures.

Cold though. Might need to find where I've stashed my gloves before long.

My phone had this pleasant little icicle on it on Sunday. I've never seen it before.

0 here, which I believe means there is no weather?

What temperature did the Aztecs think it was when it was 0, I wonder...

Yes. My phone has been programmed to give me regular updates on forummers past and present... as you can see from the screen shot below, it's very accurate.

The thermometer outside reckons it's a balmy 1°c outside now. All I know is, it's fucking cold.

My Facebook is full of work-shy cunts saying it's too dangerous for them to attempt the journey to their offices. Is it fuck. It's fine and everyone I work with made it in from their homes all over the island.

We have no toilets though because they've frozen, which is a bit inconvenient....and I have to walk for about a minute (there and back :P) to fill the kettle from the bowser. So all the office working twats can stfu and get themselves to work. Cunts.

Thankfully end of Nov where I am registers around the mid to high 20s :)

Reports from back home suggest there is snow :( (Manchester) yuck.
I love snow. ON MOUNTAINS.
Not on roads which I need to drive on :(

Huh? Ain't no snow in Manchester. There is some around Glossop (I can see it from my vantage point above Piccadilly Station) and it made a puny attempt to snow around 8.30, but gave it up as a bad job.

Tiny bit of snow fell as I walked across the car park. AND I SAW A ROBIN!

The condense pipe on my boiler has frozen thanks to some dodgy (but cheap) engineer forgetting to put some lagging on it. I'm getting some lagging at lunch but does anyone have any ideas how to defrost a external plastic pipe? The website says put a hotwater bottle on it, but the pipe is about 16ft long and I don't fancy standing on a ladder for hours stroking a water bottle across a pipe.

I've thought about wrapping a towel around the pipe and pouring hot water onto it, but don't know if this will crack the pipe or cause any damage. AHHH, HELP!

Ooh, now that's a conundrum. If I had a piece of guttering I'd put that under it and fill it with hot water. Obviously keeping it in place will be a problem.
Do you have an electric blanket you could wrap around it?

[edit] I'm sure you won't need to raise the temperature by much to get it to defrost so the simplest solution would probably be to simply lag it and leave it.

Does it face the sun during the day? It might defrost of its own accord if so.

You should make a really large steak and onion pie and then take the lid off and use the hot filling to spread a warm coating over the pipe for thawing. The lid will make a beret type hat for any passing and ill-dressed snowman.

Hope that helps!

I wandered down to Homebase in a t-shirt yesterday. People were looking at me like I was naked and walking down the street swinging my junk in circles.

It's between two houses so it doesn't really get much sun at the best of times (Gah!).

Thanks DBSnappa, I don't have an electric blanket (Gah!). My worry is that the weather is forecast to get worse today and tomorrow so even if I lag it, it might not raise the temperature much (if at all) to defrost the pipe. Plus, worst still, I'm stuck at work and won't get chance to fit it until 6pm when it'll be getting even colder anyway.

The temperature in the living room was 13 degrees this morning and falling!

Hmmmm, could you use a hosepipe and water it? Even cold water should defrost it eventually....does the pipe even need to be that long? Most pipes for condensation only stick out of the wall about 100mm, don't they? Cut it down! :P

16 foot high, right?
Yeah just pour some hot water on it, it won't crack.

If you don't fancy climbing a ladder on ice, maybe take the front off the boiler and pour hot water down the drip tray.

Can you fill a hose pipe with warm water then wrap it around the pipe? refill the hose pipe every so often.

Edit, just seen Kalmar's comments, yeah 16foot high is more likely!

I have loads of birds on my balcony, having a feast. At the moment there are two great tits, but one is the biggest I have ever seen - I think almost twice the size of a normal great tit - but not just plump - very large. Also, I notice that the most oft-returning robin is very large - not a little fluffy rounded bundle, but a large bird, very sleek, very proud breast.

I saw two collared doves earlier. I thought they were rare, but it turns out I just haven't seen the eleventy-bajillion that are in the UK.

Our parakeets are still flitting around. You'd think if anything would migrate south for winter, they would.

You know, I was very much concentrating on not mentioning having 'fat balls' on my balcony, etc. It's impossible to write about Great tits without saying 'great tits!' though :hat:

@Mali - we have a pair of collared doves which visit every day. I can hear them cooing now.

You should all put out food for our little feathered friends over the winter months. We have a fat and suit cake with berries, loads of those 'spherical things made of fat', and also a seed bell (was also careful not to say the word 'bell' before, too).

It was very much Winterwatch in our garden yesterday.

We have grey squirrels in there every day and we put monkey nuts out for them. We also have a few hooge crows that come down for the nuts and have to jump out of the way of the squirrels as they seem to come top of the pecking order.

In the last couple of weeks a couple of jays have arrived (they seem to stop off with us while migrating, a couple of times every year) and they also come down for the nuts. Sometimes they eat them whole, shells and all, while the crows will peck at them to get at the kernels. There are also magpies around, and they often dig up nuts that the squirrels have just buried, but they seem to be keeping a low profile right now. There are robins about (a pair of which we found nesting in our garage earlier in the year) and a few sparrows and starlings, and in recent weeks there's a fox that patrols around during the daylight hours as well as under cover of darkness. There are blue tits and coal tits around as well, but we don't see them so often these days.

I have two seed feeders that I used to have to fill twice daily, but for some reason the birds have lost interest in these and I only have to fill them every couple of weeks. Can't understand why this has changed.

You should all put out food for our little feathered friends over the winter months. We have a fat and suit cake with berries, loads of those 'spherical things made of fat', and also a seed bell (was also careful not to say the word 'bell' before, too).
