If you could do the 2nd, you can do the 1st, its all the same stuff, just with: 180 degrees = PI
so its just asking for the answers between 0 and 360 degrees again.

so:
2 sin(x+0.3) = -1.4
multiply both sides by 1/2 (to get rid of the 2):

sin(x+0.3) = -0.7

You can 'pretend' the 0.3 doesn't exist and just bung it on the answer at the end, so you just need to solve:

sin(a) = -0.7

so:
a = arcsin( -0.7)

now the tricky bit is cos they are asking for it with PIs in (radians), you need to make sure the calculator is in RAD mode (not DEG mode).
answer = -0.775 (if you are in DEG mode you get -44.43)

Now you just need it in the range 0-2pi, so add 2pi to this to get: 5.508

Just need to account for the '+0.3', so: x+0.3 = 5.508, therefore x = 5.208

Now this is only one of the solutions. The other solution is found by using the graph ans some cunning to get the answer: x2 = (pi + 0.775) - 0.3 = 3.616

Ah, yes. I would've been using it wired anyway, but that is slightly inelegant.

I just took some gold coloured powder to a gold merchants to test, to see if it was actually gold. My father-in-law told us it was gold and he used to use it to gild the cast iron Brittania tables in his pub. When he died after retiring and we cleared his house, we found a tin with the stuff in it and I just put it in our garage with all the other junk and forgot all about it.

Having seen a lady with a small bottle of gold powder get it valued at about £5k on last week's Antiques Roadshow I thought I'd better see if I could find that tin in the garage and the powder tested to see if it really was gold. There was over half a kilo of the stuff and at today's prices it could have been worth quite a lot. I took a small sample to the merchants, in quite posh offices in Picccadilly. The guy I saw looked about 25 and wouldn't have been out of place on the doors at a city centre night club on a Saturday night.

He gave the sample the acid test. It went a lovely green colour and fizzed a bit. I don't know what the hell it is, but it ain't gold.

Right, seriously now, I'm sick to fucking death of working in an office, behind a desk all the time. Sick of it. I'm not lazy, I'm not saying I want to quit and toss about on the dole or something, I'm just fed up of mundane shitty jobs.

Maybe I'm having a very early mid-life crisis, but I very seriously cannot go through my life like this for much longer. I've even started doing the bloody lottery in the ludicrously vague hope I might win some cash and be able to set up my own business or go back to university and retrain or something.

Undoubtedly like a lot of people here, I'm good at building computers. Sensible ones, that is, not massively overclocked, watercooled behemoths with enough LEDs to light a football pitch and a BIOS that automatically flashes itself on boot-up. A lot of people aren't good at this though, or they lack the inclination to do it for themselves, so I'm wondering, is it possible in this day and age to actually make money from building computers to customer order? Enough to do it full-time perhaps and not have to rely on the mundane drudgery of office life?

The boss at small PC shop I used to work at (back in 2003) seemed to be doing alright, certainly well enough to own his own shop in our town centre, but then he insisted we built machines using the cheapest parts known to man, then simply refuse to do anything when the customer tried to bring it back under warranty. I wouldn't wish to do things like that, I'd instead want to make stuff using decent, yet affordable brand name components (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, etc) and cheap but smart looking cases and provide a decent customer service whilst doing it.

I'd consider servicing people's existing computers too. Just today I've been asked if I can wipe a laptop for someone as she's having problems with browser crashes and it being slow. Plus people are always picking up some virus or other so you could assist there?

I mean, basic setup and troubleshooting are things most of us do anyway - if you can go into people's houses and help them set up a network, for example, you could get paid for that. Making people aware that's what you did would be the tricky part, however.

I used to do that too, in that shop I mentioned funnily enough. It remains the only job I've ever left for 'moral' reasons, as my boss would have us do unnecessary work on customer's PCs to massively ramp the costs up. He was a total arsehole, but still in business. Check out his awesome customer reviews!

Surely, simply by providing a good service and not being an arsehole, it can't be too hard to compete with that?

There aren't any Best Buys anywhere near where I live unfortunately, otherwise I'd give it serious consideration. I don't earn especially good money in what I do now (21.5k pa) as a fairly low-level corporate IT drone, so I doubt something like that would even involve much of a pay cut.
