Is there a "forum IRC" these days? I've tried #worldofbistro a few times and it is empty.

/me waits for a reply

I know we had one but don't think IRC is a good idea for this forum, personally. We have bits and bobs, we have xbox voice chat, that's enough.

Actual IRC means you end up with nobody posting on the forum any more - OK, there would be less chatter, but it takes a critical mass to keep going. I can think of several forums that have dried up that way.

A lot of people use Twitter as well, of course.

You're right, of course. I was just wondering if there was an IRC for this forum. I guess not many people still use it these days with the advent of "Web 2.0".

IRC tends to be half a dozen people, all afk 23.5 hours a day. Popping in and saying 'hello?' is just ignored as there's nobody there to answer!

Someone does turn up and a conversation does start, and then suddenly they realize they have to go eat dinner/go to university/service the missus/extinguish a kitchen fire/add the name of a game to their nick because they've gone to play that instead/go wank because something you've said has reminded them of something else which reminds them of sex/answer the phone and all is quiet again.

Then someone runs the trivia/quote bot a few times out of boredom, swears at the idiotic questions/lols at the quotes and then leaves.

4 hours later, someone who is afking appears to type 'gosh it's quiet' before immediately going afk again before anyone who might have been there could respond.

In my experience, most IRC bots are annoying.

what's the address of WoB? The old gametag thread that had it in has disappeared.

Posting it here will be much quicker than creating some sort of 'search' for the forum, or making and pinning a topic that lists different threads that we want to keep an eye on, so here it is: viewtopic.php?t=92

THPPPPPPP.

The gamertag one used to be pinned, so I just looked for that.

Thanks, though.

Anyway, the irc.nik.whatsit address doesn't work.

That registers the irc:// protocol too -- few do in my experience.

Put the belm dimlee on hold - I think Mr K is referring to the web client that I used to have but haven't bothered re-setting up since I had a hard drive die on me, taking out pretty much everything on my Linux machine. </Coffey>

I could put it back up, but I get the feeling there's not the demand, these days. :)

mIRC does. I don't think I've used any others.

I've got pidgin set up to autologin & it's always empty :(

I always think that it would be quite useful for talking shite during big sporting events & stuff though.

Also, pidgin is another one that doesn't recognise the irc:// stuff btw.

It would be where we'd run a realtime Mafia, of course.
