My downloading doofers are supposed to be remote accessible. But I cant get to them.

I have a Virgin Cable line, a Tomato (DD-WRT) based router and an IP address 'translator' service running, but when I plug in my.address.com:portnumber it never works. This bugs me, as I'd like it to. Am I missing a step?

Where are you trying to remote access from? It might be your company's firewall blocking those ports.

I'm assuming you've configured port forwarding in the router?

Dammit. It works using my mobile connection.
