Has anybody ever came across DSP on YouTube?

I like him a lot. He's a former/current (I dunno) pro Street Fighter player/gaming fanatic. He posts YouTube videos of himself playing and commenting on games. Like the full game. His Fallout 3 playthrough is the stuff of legend. You can literally watch him play through Fallout 3 from start to finish. He does this with more or less every major game release. He's just finished New Vegas. He also just lost his job (recession), and he's trying to do the YouTube thing full time.

http://www.youtube.com/user/THEKINGOFHATEHD - His general "talking at the camera videos".
http://www.youtube.com/user/dspgaming - Gameplay footage with commentaries.

Personally, I don't watch his playthrough videos, but I do enjoy his "Hateful Truth" series, which is where he basically reviews the games he's recently played. Here he is reviewing New Vegas and Vanquish:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h-DUqbQXhQ

He's totally independent and he certainly knows his shit (he's a huge nerd, and he plays pretty much every game through to completion, properly - hell, you can watch him doing it for proof), so anyone looking for a good review source wouldn't go far wrong watching some of his videos. So yeah, I like him, what do you all think?

Oh my, 30 minutes!?
10 seconds in: I don't like his voice.
2 minutes in: I'm thinking this should really be a podcast.
2:30 in: War and Peace trivia fail. But still, that's one hell of a guide.
8:44 in: Got to confess I'm zoning in and out, but I guess I'm not interested in cheevo's. I'm not watching any more, just listening.
12:40 in: "You have to have the strategy guide to play Fallout 3: NV properly" WTF?
20:00 in: Self-confessed hard-core gamer takes the piss out of someone because they have long hair. What?
20:00 onward: And he forgets to zoom his camera out, genius.
24:00 in: Vanquish is the first game in which enemies react in pain when they're shot?! Is he serious?

Okay, done. Hmm - I'm not convinced. His big "OMG reviewers lie to the consumers, this isn't a nine, that's bullshit, here's how it really is" made me roll my eyes a bit. He's got some good points, but Jesus he needs to work on his production - some clips of the game in question would be nice, and he doesn't really seem to know his stuff.

Good luck to the chap, but it's not my kind of thing - I'd just end up hating him.

Ha! He has some annoying traits - he's basically an anti-social nerd type, but he's honest about games.

His voice goes from annoying to amusing when he's playing SSFIV against randoms :DD

It's not for me.

Well, I hate him now :)

Er, no - it's you. Or more accurately, the other player was better than you.

Well his Vanquish review told me a lot more about the game than any of the shitty sites did.

You must surely agree about the lack of in-game footage?

Huh?

edit: Oh, you edited. Well to be fair you can watch him play the whole game on his other channel. I'm not really arsed about footage being spliced in - I only listen to what he's saying whilst I browse the nets anyway!

Yeah - like I said, I think it's far better suited to a podcast.

I think if you're an American chap you need to not sound like an American lady. Too many Americans, this guy included, make this mistake. Noam Chomsky and Peter Cullen are ok voices to sound like. Not like this chap, he's rubbish at voice.

I tell you what, though, I bet he could kick you in if you got in a real fight. He prolly does karate or kickboxing or something, and he probably works out.
He looks quick as well as strong, actually, and is probably smart enough to be a pretty talented fighter. I bet he's got a fair bit of instinct going on and can defend himself really well, too.

Yup, I can say with authority: The reason none of us like him is because he's too hard.

I've only just had the chance to check this guy out - fucking hell, what a twat. He clearly knows jack shit about games (had never heard of Blood Stone till he had people request a review of it, and also apparently had no idea who Bizarre Creations were either) and whenever I try to watch any of his gameplay videos I sit there wishing I could turn his twatish voice off.

But other than that: 7/10. Fine if you like that sort of thing.

Not good either by all accounts. Looks pretty underwhelming across the board, and at four hours or so, it doesn't really seem worth the price of entry.

See, that depends on how much you play games (and how many you buy). I'd much prefer a four-hour game to a forty-hour one, just so I might actually finish it.

Yeah I've heard that one before, but this isn't a four hour long "good game". As I said, it's supposed to be pretty much shit as well as incredibly short.

Well, I've bought it and shall be commencing playage this evening. I'll let you all know but the quick blast I had on it suggested it was okay. It's just not anything new I suppose, but seems good for a quick blast.

Yahtzee wins by being amusing and for his excellent little pictures that accompany and support the review.

I don't understand why anyone would want to sit and watch someone else play through an entire game, and then just sitting on their couch.

In his opinion.

Some one that slags people off for having long hair and carrying some weight. Which tbh is out of line especially when you're a fat jobless cunt yourself.

He might get a cult following for being a loudmouth prick but he's still a loudmouth prick.

No, in everyone's opinion. The reviews across the board are average. I'm not sure why the discussion for this game turned up in this thread though, which is probably why you're confused. I haven't even heard what this guy has had to say about the game. I watched the first 15 minutes or so of him playing it though.

I don't really "get" the full playthrough thing myself - although his many subscribers and the number of views his videos get suggest a lot of people do like it. I watched one of the Blood Stone segments because I wanted to see what it was like to play after reading the disappointing reviews, but other than that, I just watch his talking stuff, which I genuinely think is good (despite not having footage spliced in or whatever). He's honest about the games. Yeah, he's a crass, annoying voiced horrible wanker, but he does play a lot of games and he does know what he's talking about generally. Or at least, you can glean whether or not something is good from what he is trying to say, which I've found very useful.

This combined with the timeliness of his reviews (he generally gets them up within a week of release), and how easy it is to allow them to passively soak in like a podcast in the background is why I like him. I'm definitely not going to stand up for his "opinions" on anything other than games, though. He's obviously socially retarded and a bit of a loudmouth idiot.

As for Yahtzee, he's entertaining and I watch all of his videos as and when they come out, but I don't find him particularly useful. Not just because the reviews are generally of games that have been out for long enough for me to have already bought them, but also because they're skewed to being comedic and overly critical, you can't really use them as buying advice. They're much more entertaining when you've played the game yourself and then he outlines the annoyances you noticed yourself allowing a bit of "oh yeah, I noticed that!" LOLs.

I see what you're saying but the whole presentation (just a guy on his couch, talking) is boring and I wouldn't want to sit and listen to him drone at me in the hope of picking something out of it.

Yeah I can totally understand that chap. I don't even remember how I discovered him, but it was only a couple of months ago and I was really bored. I watched a certain video where I totally agreed with everything he said, then shortly after that he lost his job and posted a video about that, and I couldn't help but start to sort-of like him. Since then, I can happily watch his videos and ignore his startlingly obvious cuntish-ness. I think most people here can relate to that.

Analogy edit:

Take Russell Brand. I'm pretty sure most people on here hate him. They probably think he's an obnoxious poser twat or something. I can see that. I can totally see that. But I like him very much because quite often on his old podcasts, he'd say some very interesting things that really resonated with me. Totally ignoring the "comedy" side of it. He'd occasionally say something, perhaps philosophical for want of a better word, maybe something to do with "his outlook on life" that I very much agreed with, and that allowed me to look past the irritating twat persona and genuinely enjoy what he says and does. I feel the same thing has happened with this guy. I'm willing to forgive him obviously being a twunt because he once said something about a game that I 100% agreed with. :D
