What's considered to be a high dose?

Reason I ask is I went to the dentist today.. Not good.. I have eight teeth that need to come out and a seriously twisted jaw structure from all the grinding. Because of that he can't start on it yet and so he's given me 30mg codiene. I remember before I was on 10 and it did shit all.

Codeine on its own or combined with paracetamol?

If on it's own 500-1000mg would kill you. The usual total daily adult dose would be 60-240 mg comprised of a 15-60mg dose for up to four times a day. Codeine is metabolized into morphine and is therefore a pretty kick ass pain killer in my experience. If it is combined with Paracetamol you reach safe Paracetamol consumption limits long before you reach dangerous Codeine levels.

Also it is highly addictive, enjoy.

Apparently, and I freely admit this might be bullshit because it's wikipedia'd, some people metabolise it quicker than others, so some people get fucked off their face on it and others don't notice any side effects. I have a friend who swears she is basically completely stoned whenever she takes it, but if it does anything to me I haven't noticed (other than being the only thing that killed off toothache pain for any length of time).

Kerrist, 8 teeth out? That's not good.

It's spelled codeine if you're looking it up by the way. (Admittedly google would have known what you meant anyway).

Eight teeth out? Good god, that's nasty. Good luck with that JC.

Perhaps you could swap stories with my cat when it's all done - she had six teeth out a year ago.

Codeine sorts the pain out for me, but I don't notice any drowsiness or ‘high’, unlike actual morphine. Actual morphine is one horrible bitch.

There's nothing left of them mate. They've literally collapsed and are nothing but sharp hollow shells.

I've already had five out for the same reasons but these can't be pulled in the usual manner. Might be a hospital jobby.

They're going to give me dentures and a splint to put in when I take them out. That way I won't twist my jaw any more than I already have and can grind on it til my heart's content.

What's worse is the more they hurt the more I grind on them, like some sort of sick pleasure. They really need to come out. They've given me nothing but shit for the past 20 years.

Only had it a few times for appendicitis, was awesome. Knocked out straight away.

That and the pure air style gas you get in abulances made me appreciate why people may like class A drugs.

Fun, that one. Everything bounces, and your voice feels funny. The pain is still there, but you stop giving a shit.

The ambulance went over a great big bump when I broke my wrist, banging my arm against the wall in the process. The look of shock on the paramedic's face was priceless, until he realised the gas had kicked in, and I was smiling like a loon.

It is, aye. I was thinking you needed an anaesthetist present to safely administer N2O, but it turns out that they've came up with a solution for that.

Yeah, I remember being unable to keep biting on it ( :hat: ). Also, it makes your mouth incredibly dry, which isn't helpful when they're not allowed to let you drink anything lest you end up needing emergency surgery.

Indeed. Turned out I needed to be put under general anaesthetic just to temporarily set my wrist that time. I've a mate who did some work experience in a hospital, and a woman came in with the same injury. The howls he heard as they snapped the wrist back into place without general anaesthetic still haunt him to this day.

Also:

I like the festival solution where they get a balloon and breath it in & out until they can't hold on any longer and it flies away :DD

30mg of codeine isn't that much, when I did my back in I was taking 60mg four times per day.

If you're given the 30/500 co-codamols or similar, cold water extraction and Google are your friend ;)

I broke and dislocated my pinkie finger. It was sticking out sideways. So they put a pen in between in and the one next to it and snapped it back into place lol. That'll teach me to run like the clappers and not look where I'm going :D ran straight into a tree hand first.

It was the sound that made me yell lol. CRACK.

Hi. Experience here.

My personal best was 5 balloons, back to back without a single breath of clean air in between. This was in my flat with my then flatmate, we had Fatboy Slim (Slash Dot Com) playing in the background. To say it was the single best trip I have ever been on - enhanced by the repetitive nature of the music absolutely mashing your head - (the long in depth conversation with David Hasselhoff was a highlight) is an understatement.

I need to order me some more cream cartridges. Can't get them delivered to work though :(

If hers was like mine, her wrist would have been like a chicane, and it certainly wouldn't be any of the sounds that'd make her yell!

This happened to a friend of mine who had been out for a few beers with two (at the time, now qualified) med student friends. He fell over leaving the pub and broke his wrist very badly. They took him to AE and told the senior houseman that he had had (a lie) far too much to drink for general and he had his wrist reset with nothing as well. Apparently he screamed the place down. They laughed. I've never seen a wrist break like this, he had about 10 pieces of stainless steel and various clamps on the outside of his plaster and going through the wrist.

The only time I broke anything (my nose) I was knocked out. Carrier bag stuck in my bikes front wheel/forks and over I went. They stitched up my top lip with no anesthetic and told me my inner bottom lip would heal on it's own (incisors had dug in almost halfway).

I was on soup for ages after as I knocked my teeth loose too.

So er, hope that helps.

Those two friends are cunts.

It's quite a common injury when you fall on an open hand, apparently. I've also heard it's one of the more painful of the fractures you can experience, though I haven't had an awful lot to compare it against, and you quickly forget exactly how painful things were as time passes by.

Ugh, that's not a pleasant feeling at all, I imagine.

I had to wait nearly two days in hospital for my elbow operation. During these two days, where I had to frequently get up for the bathroom and to stretch my legs, it didn't even remotely occur to any of the nurses to offer me a sling. I could feel the fragments of my elbow (the surgeon described it as a bag of bones, like I'd gone at it with a hammer; no discernible order or structure at all) grinding against eachother every time I moved. And of course being doped up to the heavens it didn't occur to me to ask for a sling for quite some time.

Actually, one of them is a gynaecologist, if you excuse the bad taste pun. A very successful one at that. I don't envy his million pa income. Nope. Not me.

I'm glad. She's had a rough time lately and needs a good laugh.

She'd like that. Loves me she does.

Has any one ever felt what being stitched up without any anasthetic feels like? Not nice !.

I had a really bad BMX wreck once. I landed on my elbow with 14.5st behind it and at least 15 mph. It splatted open and my bone was sticking out so they had to inject me with loads and then clean it all out inside and cut the skin away with scissors. Then they grabbed it with fauceps (sic?) and stitched it. Problem was the proceedure took so long that the injections wore off and the last three stitches had to go in with me feeling every last pull tug and sharp pain. Oucho.

My heart goes out to Rambo in First Blood.

I guzzled codeine for a couple of weeks after I snapped my leg earlier this year. They were 30mg and the prescription said I could take two four times daily, so it should be safe to take up to 240mg daily. They can lead to dependence and are quite addictive as previously mentioned though, so be careful. Not that you should need to take them for that long, the mouth heals quickly.

If you're taking 240mg a day then you will get constipated. As you'll likely not be up to the task of eating extra fibre due to sore gums, I recommend you buy some laxative from the chemist.

The human body is rubbish. The sooner we can transfer our minds to robot bodies the better.
