We have to be careful, friends. A menace threatens the very fabric of our beautiful community. A spectre looms that prevents our more casual users from feeling a part of the Beex Village.

That threat, is In Jokes.

Those of us who were brave enough to venture into the bleak, blasted landscape of darkest Derbyshire have come away with lasting, wonderful memories, sore limbs and emotional scars, BUT we risk alienating those that were not in attendance with our cryptic references and witty asides.

I'm sure we've all felt like an outsider at least once in our blessed lives, so let us be INCLUSIVE and WELCOMING and by jove, a little bit EXCELLENT.

And yes, my mum *is* an injoke.

This place has always been full of in-jokes, regardless of any meet-ups. It does make me a little wary about introducing new folk to it - I'd have to spend a week just explaining Zardoz and I just don't have time.

I, for one, am completely comfortable not knowing why Gaywood's name is "Doccy No-Pubes" now.

DavPaz, as much I love you and your enormous head (sorry) I think you are wrong diddly. From the point of view who reads the boards regularly I and knows a hell of a lot of the regular posters in real life, I still struggle to find places to join in a lot of the time because of continuing in jokes. I don't think it's any worse following a meet (well, maybe slightly but not over proportionately considering the number of people spent a lot of time together).

Or maybe I'm just a girl who doesn't understand computer games. ;)

Erm, is that you agreeing with me, or disagreeing? I'm unclear. :S

Maybe I should clarify. I'm not saying BAN IN JOKES OR FORUM DIES, I'm saying that maybe some users are being to feel alienated by the constant rehashing. Has the 'your mum' thing not run it's course now?

Yep, ban in-jokes or indeed jokes altogether and we might as well all sign up at World of :attitude: for happy fun times.

There aren't really many in-jokes that couldn't be cured with a bit of lurking or ignored. It's mostly just peurile banter, pop culture references & memes that are as old as the Internet.

I wasn't at the meet but I do read the forum a lot so I guess I'm no judge of whether the in jokes are alienating people.

If I was an outsider though, I would see a collection of people who all clearly get on. In jokes are inevitable so don't sweat it.

My mom doesn't sweat your face.

Did I do that right?

To be fair to Davpaz's sensitive side and thoughtful nature, as someone who wasn't there I have had no idea what most of you have been talking about since you got back. As someone who has been around for a while, however, I'm assuming/hoping you'll get bored of them after time and sooner or later will start speaking normal English. If I were new I'm sure the forums would seem full of in-jokes all the time.

You're mum's an... etc... isn't really an injoke. There was plenty of that going on before the manchester meet via mainly MW2 and then plenty during the meet, and it's just continued. Don't sweat it bighead :)

I really do not feel I need to know the in-jokes. Not just the 'meet' ones, just most of the time I miss them anyway :D

As far as I've noticed the only thing that's different post meet is that Doc G is now Dr Baldnob & the your face/mum "jokes" are more prolific than ever.

One appears to be a disturbing in-joke & the other's just universal crap patter.

Its newman and Baddiel in Mary Whitehouse. They took it with them when the two pairs split, but it didn't come up a lot after Mary Whitehouse, other than in the live shows.

Much like Milky Milky, although Hugh Dennis resurrected that briefly on the Now Show a few weeks back.
