Well, I fail to see how that is going to be popular and useful!

Seems to be a bit of a white elephant. My Auntie and Uncle had a set top box for browsing the web on your TV a few years ago, and it's pretty terrible as a concept. Still, with plenty of TV-focussed apps - for streaming, playing back photo libraries and stuff - it could be viable. I think they would have been much better off doing an Apple-style mini box rather than locking themselves in with TV manufacturers though.

BYE SKY!

Assuming they bring some sort of box out instead of making people buy a whole TV. Oh, and they can get some good networks signed up. Oh, and they can get the premium sport stuff. Etc.

We can't even get Hulu over here, and they've been in business for years. Any kind of TV offering is all about doing decent deals for content, not about the presentation layer.

Cor! That NBA thing looks cool.

Oh, and there is a box:

So you don't have to buy a new telly.

It's quite a neat idea, actually - I like the idea of using your TV for video calling.

Apps on TVs aren't anything new, though.

Colour me intrigued at least.

Sky boxes and the like don't interest me at all. But this with a/instead of a media pc could be lovely.

The remote control is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

Indeed. Would a second, basic remote for just the TV functions be too much to ask for?

I liked something someone wrote on twitter about this; "hell is watching other people navigate UIs". Web browsing is a solitary experience. Does it really benefit from being on a TV?

Seems a bit of an odd argument. Most of us play single player games on our tellies quite a lot.

Browsing is a small aspect though isn't it? I thought the main benefit would be from VOD, with a wider range of suppliers than a single cable box provides. That doesn't explain the overblown remote and woefully small onboard storage though.

I missed the remote somewhere. I saw that you could use your phone, but that's it.

Yeah, which means it'll never be of any use at all outside the US.

A far better QWERTY remote, just to show it can be done: http://www.betanews.com/article/TiVo-la ... 1282616453

Not got the hang of that "multitasking" yet, then?

Anyway, he can just use his iPhone.

I actually really like the idea of a usable web browser on the telly. I think it's something I'd use quite a lot. You need a way to use a mouse cursor though, something that TiVo one doesn't have.

Yes, it does, as does the PS3. Do you know anyone who uses either?

What I really hate about the PS3 (I know I know) is that you can't bloody navigate around iPlayer with the remote but have to use a joypad.
But browsing the web on all consoles is painful.

Yes. Danielle was watching Lip Service when I came in last night and looked affronted when I explained there was no way for her to pause it from the remote control. That's a shit piece of design.

The PS3 has a web browser, doesn't it? Integrated with Move, that could be pretty good, I suppose.

Edit: Should've refreshed before posting that, really.
