I go.

I'm quite apprehensive over this, for some reason, but at least it is a day out.

Weekend was good. I saw the BBC TV centre and drank hobgoblin and Tribute with the Men whilst MrsA and The Girls went to Portbello Market and then I got to play RedDeadRedemption on sunday. It's quite good.

I really enjoyed today.

Among the assorted flyers in the post waiting for me today (I never realised I had so many takeaways round here) was one for Lidl. It was about to go in the bin, but on the back it mentions LidlMovies which is cheaper than Lovefilm etc. Might as well give the free trial a go I guess.

Hook Norton's Haymaker ( a PA), Twelve Days and Bitter are lovely. The Double Stout is good, as is Old Hooky, but I find the latter a bit sweet. The Dark ( a mild) is good. I'm not sure about the Gold, though, as MrsA drank my bottle of it, and the hops are from dirty foreign Merkinania.

More work again tomorrow, which I am looking forward to.

My little brother's in hospital with a hand injury. Apparently some wee cunt at school pushed him down some stairs, and he got up and decked him. Crazy! :(

Ale is best served at room temperature. When in a pub, it is best when served without a sprinkler/sparkler as this forces the beer out at a higher pressure and you don't get as much of the aromatic compounds hitting your nose. Northerners disagree, however and complain when there is no sprinkler/sparkler. They are wrong.

Depends, All Bar One serve London Pride through a Nitrogen cooled chiller. It changes the flavour considerably and is an almost European style. I generally prefer ale to be aley, but it depends on the mood. Also, some beers are good chilled, because obviously this affects the size of the bubbles, which affects the "mouth feel". Generally though (IMO), the darker the beer, the warmer it should be served (within reason, don't boil your porter kiddies)

You're only allowed to do this if you get them in time for Derby.

They changed the recipe earlier this year for a much blander one with less vanilla and lime.

I thought about doing this on the weekend, I was a massive fan of the old style Sailor Jerry's. New style is nowhere near as tasty. I was considering tinkering with varying degrees of a home made vanilla and lime syrup as a mixer. I gave up thinking about it in the end as it was 10.30 on a Sunday morning and therefore, not the best time to be experimenting with neat spirits.

Apparently they adjusted the recipe as bar tenders were finding it difficult to mix.

I think they should have left it alone. No need for anything special, either drink it with Coke or neat with ice and a splash of lime.

I didn't like the old Sailor Jerry's but the new one just tastes like shite spiced rum.

Btw, some of the homemade spiced rum recipes are worth trying out, works fine with supermarket shite too :)

I've been for 2 job interviews today. One at a big company where it was all stock, competency questions and the second at a smaller family run firm where it was all odd questions.

That really threw me but fingers crossed! The second one is only 3 miles away. That would be ace!

Nice one Gill!

They were only odd I suppose because I wasn't used to them. The only interviews I've done recently have been competency based where I can draw on examples and such like.

In the 2nd one today, he started questioning my career choices and saying that they seemed odd and how I trained for them etc. It just threw me a little bit.

My CV is a rather interesting read so I am always ready for a question like that and indeed often hope for it so I can make it appear a bit better than 'I liked earning lots of money for six months then dossing around in jobs that meant nothing to me for six months'. Even if that is actually the truth ;)

I hope you managed to handle it well enough, it's always unsettling when you're easked a question you've never had before in an interview but the best thing to do is take a breath and a moment to consider what you're going to say. Taking a second to collect your thoughts looks better than blabbering nonsense that doesn't answer anything.

Good Luck!
