OK,

So all I wanted to do a couple of months ago was play Viva Pinata, but then the stupid Eggbox broke. Stupid Eggbox.

So, because I am a moron I struggled myself by carrying MY old Eggbox all the way from London back to Lancaster, with all my stuff, which almost broke my back. Now, before I travelled with it I was not so stupid as to not test the thing. It worked fine.

I didn't bring the power supply as it weighs as much as a small country.

OK, disk in hand...

Noooooooo.

Now, either Microsoft is purposefully breaking all the 360s or the power supply is faulty. The Xbox never turns on - just comes up in the RRoD pattern, but it never actually starts up at all. The power supply never gets past stand-by mode (it has a little light on it which changes colour according to what it is doing)

So, have I just been stupidly unlucky in that they have both gone at the same instance, or can it be the power supply?

If it is possibly the power supply, is it possible to purchase new ones? I've been looking online but can't think of what they are called - I looked for power supply and 'brick' but none f these bring up anywhere that you might be able to purchase them separately from the Eggbox. If they are available for purchase, where would it be best (read: cheapest) to get one from?

One of the questions I was asked when my original XBox RRODd was the colour of the power supply. I think of it doesn't go green, there's a good chance of it being the power supply that failed.

I have a spare one here, but I have a nagging suspicion it may be Dimrill's. If he doesn't mind, I'll send it to you for postage.

There are a few available on the Amazon marketplace

Although it would seem that they are not universal, you need to work out which voltage you need.

Have you tried phoning microsoft? They might be able to help you out.

There are a number of different types of power supply , so it could be that its gone , or it could just be the wrong one.

They also have incompatible connectors, from what I've seen. I seem to remember the XBOx Grim... sent to Mr Chris had a problem with power supply not fitting.

Wow, thanks for the information, Mr Dave!

I had no idea that there were various different ports and connectors.

The power supply and both 360s have the ports/connectors of the 203w 1st generation Xbox. The one that we originally thought broken has been replaced by Microsoft once or twice but the one I struggled all the way up the country with is the one I originally bought.

Thanks for letting me know that when you called up they questioned you about the light on the power supply - my one does not go green, which give me hope that this is indeed the problem. It would be an aggravating coincidence, to say the least, if BOTH broke, especially as I only tested it five hours previously and it was working fine.

Annoyingly, none of the ones on Amazon Marketplace seem to be for the 203w version. You'd think there'd be LOADS around considering the amount of XBoxes that have bitten the dust. Would there be any point even asking at somewhere like Gamestation? I guess they are not very likely to accept trade-ins on power supplies alone.

I may have a 360 power supply around somewhere. From the several 360s I've had that have failed. I'll even send it for free if you like as my business postage account would mean the cost would be negligible.
