I have an American friend in London this weekend, staying in the Hyde Park area I believe, and a couple of us Brits are charged with showing him and his ladyfriend a rollicking good time, knees up Mother Brown style... unfortunately I know sod all about London drinking establishments but I rather wager that one or two of you might ;)

So please recommend-me-do... preferably not too smart, and cider must be served if possible... not sure how much of an issue location is, because I have heard of these wonderful things called "underground trains" that I believe could be used at a push.

There are some awesome pubs around Shepherd Market, which is between Hyde Park and Green Park.

I'd pick a really decent pub, arrange to meet them at the nearest station then turn my phone off.

I've heard Little Chef are running their amazing 'bottomless teapot' scheme once more, if that helps. Awesome atmos in there; I'd particularly recommend their Early Starter signature dish.

Indeed, the Fat Duck never did get the hang of those all important triangular fried bread pieces; I believe they mistakenly use a blowtorch in lieu of immersion into 6 years old, unfiltered oil?

Mind you, their NV White Lightning cider apperitif, authentically served in 3 litre plastic 'pop style' bottles direct to table sans glasses, more than compensates I feel. Albin213218792189721837218379278139827139823197879132879231o's guests will doubtless approve.

I think there's a subliminal message broadcast in the boarding areas of all airports, everywhere. It's a behavior modification message that tells travelers to march off their flight and start demanding that they "Be shown a good time," or asking, "What's good to see around here?"

I just want to go to my hotel and maybe nap, but for some reason I keep proclaiming that I am super interested in good times and things of interest. Lies. All lies.

I would imagine that wouldn't really work for Fanny Stupid arriving last week. I don't think Cwmbran has a plethora of interesting sites to behold. Good times, maybe.
