Interesting story bubbling under the surface today on Guido Fawkes. Now he is a particularly odious blogger, but what's his motivations here?

http://order-order.com/2010/08/31/exclusive-hague-shared-night-in-hotel-bedroom-with-spad/

Wonder how long that will stay up? Rumour has it that Guido is holed up well outside of the UK legal jurisdiction.

The comments are particularly frothing and downright bonkers. Perhaps its the norm for that site? I can't really say having paid it hardly any attention in the past.

There is "form" here. This Daily Mail article tries to allude to something going on with Seb Coe:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-149725/Seb-Coe-splits-wife-13-years.html

All very weird. Personally I don't really care if he is or isn't, but what I do find fascinating is how this story might develop. Is someone out to smear Hague? Or if there is something going on, what vested interest is trying to unsurp Hague from the front bench? Either way, someone has suddenly decided its important that this story is out there, and for their own benefit.

I guess it's sit back and watch.

Doesn't seem all that surprising, now that you mention it.

One apposite comment on that blog - it'll be fun dealing with Iran as an homosexualist, won't it..

Look, it's getting closer to real papers already:

This has been brewing since before the weekend as apparently the cartoon was completed a few days ago (it was commissioned from a PB poster).

So it'll be interesting to see if this gets legs. I suspect its like that Prince Charles thing a few years back in that it's just trouble making.

It has to be enemies of Hague though. Just look at poor old Portillo (who I hated back in the day but warmed to enormously after that programme where he lived on a council estate for a week). He got stitched up by his enemies when he was in the running for leader. Someone wants Hague out of there.

A friend of ours in London worked as Hague's secretary for a while. She's pretty sure he's not gay.

Guido Fawkes is a shit-stirring, smarmy cunt of the first water.

"It is surely inappropriate for someone of William Hague’s status to be sharing a night in a hotel room with his driver – you only have to consider how absurd it would be if his driver were female to see it is completely bizarre even if there were two beds."

Er, no. Unless you're a massively homophobic, childish schoolboy who thinks that guys sharing a hotel room are at it like rabbits (hi Curiosity!). Hague sharing a room with a chap is very much not the same as sharing a room with a female. And not just because of the plumbing.

He may have started the blog as a political thing, but he's long since descended into shitty NotW/Express style crap.

If I remember correctly, P. Staines also tried to smear Gordon Brown by making plenty of not-so-subtle hints about Brown's supposed sexual orientation, so this isn't the first time that Staines has pulled this kind of bullshit.

Lest we forget him being called a pratt while acting the pratt on Newsnight.

He's got a bit of a... gay voice. I wonder if he's slept with a man.

It's all rather tawdry that Hague has had to bring out the details of the miscarriage. Not Hagues fault, but he has little choice. Even politicians have a right to some privacy in their personal lives.

Fawkes wants to be making the headlines, and really someone needs to sue him. If he was to do a write up about the BEEX cottaging weekend he'd end up making it sound like an orgy.*

* See what I did there? You only need to keep on suggesting something to undermine them. And I reckon someone wants to undermine Hague because of something Hague has done in the past.

Probably not even in the past, he's a moderate isn't he? Probably some uberconservative smoke filled room decided he was too liberal.

Of course he does. Or rather certain factions of it. But there are barking mad factions in every party. Just as you can't tar the Labour front bench with the likes of Bob Crow, you can't really tar the majority of Tories with Guido.

It goes back to the Portillo thing. Someone chose to bring Portillo down when he was standing for leader. Someone wants Hague out of the way. The only difference is there was substance in the Portillio allegations (although would the public care, I doubt it).

Your point is spot-on, but the specifics are a bit off with Bob Crow, as he has never been a member of the Labour party (instead getting involved with fringe left movements like the various Communist parties and No2EU), and I'm not ever sure if the RMT union he leads even continues to fund the Labour party.

Sorry, didn't realise the RMT wasn't a Labour Trade Union anymore. It seems the RMT were so barking mad the Labour Party disaffiliated them.

Interesting development. Popbitch suggest that the Hague story was fed to Fawkes in order to bury this story which is due to peak over the next few days.

http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/how-prince-william-harry-phones-were-hacked-by-tabloid-48943?trendingnow

OBV the The Sun, Times and Sky won't be mentioning all of this.

Oooh, thanks Chinny.

My word, isn't the media rubbish. It's all Murdoch's fault.

Interesting, but also infuriating in the use of the word "hacking". No hacking involved as far as I can see, just getting hold of voicemail pin numbers and listening to their voicemails.

Hang on Chinny - I've just skim read that article - what's new there that wasn't already covered at tub-thumping length in the Guardian?

It's all surfacing again apparently as Coulson's enemies are ganging up. They want his head on a spike.

Why now? Did he spill someone's pint over the Bank Holiday or something? And why would the Murdoch press cover for him now he's left? They could just blame him rather than accept it was an endemic NewsCorp thing.

I'm not sure either especially as Coulson is a media advisor to Cameron.

Murdoch backed Cameron as the Great White Hope, didn't he?

Doubt he'd want to see him tarred with a sleazy brush already.

The story is bigger than that, though. The police (allegedly) collaborated with the media to cover up crime (more or less). Which is pretty dreadful.

Given that the Met are happy to kill people and cover that up/sweep it under the carpet, it's hardly surprising though.
