Anybody else getting this? I was pretty impressed with the demo. Had it on pre-order for a while now. No reviews yet, though, so it might be getting cancelled if it turns out to be properly gash like Kane and Lynch 2 apparently is.

Apparently the driving is fucking atrocious. Which matches up to my view of the original. Got to the first bit where you had to drive somewhere and gave up because it was that bad.

It was probably the worst part of the demo, but no worse than GTA or whatever. Having said that, I didn't really drive in anger so to speak, and I imagine it'd be irritating when it matters.

Shame, because that fucking driving bit in the first Mafia was a game ruiner for me and many people IIRC.

I got to the bit where you have to bash up some cars with a crowbar and ran out of time five times in a row. Never went back to it.

Driving was OK to me. Just change the view to roadcam.

Can't say I like the game very much though. It's too hard too quickly.

I completed the first one, so it can't have been anywhere near as hard. Overall it is a bit of a letdown tbh.

I thought reviewers would come down on it hard, but not that hard !

Playing it just reminded me so much of GTAIV. And that's years old now. TBH I think the first Mafia game is much better and that's years old. The first one didn't feel like you were playing GTA.

Fucking hell! How does a decent demo turn into a 4/10 game? It's Kane and Lynch all over again! Finger hovering over pre-order cancel button.

Read the review and cancelled. Shitty awful autosave checkpoints are enough for me.

Meanwhile, according to Metacritic, IGN gave it 70%. It seems to be inspiring a wide spread of review scores. Interesting.

Very easily. It's the wool and eyes technique.

Doc, IGN over rate pretty much everything. They do a decent review, but nowhere near as brutal as EG. And brutal is good, especially when it costs £40 or so.

I did spot the hardness to the shoot out bit though. It just got very frustrating.

All the criticisms in the EG review are the kind of things I hate in games. So probably not gonna play this.

Exactly Lewie, such as the checkpoint system throwing you miles back and forcing you to watch cutscenes and perform mundane shit again. Fuck that, even with a broken leg there isn't enough time in my day.

In an ideal world, Dimmers, an ideal world! The same reviewer, unfortunately, was the one who gave Limbo 9/10. I really don't know what to think. Fuck it, though. Stupid rubbish checkpoints and loads of other stuff to play already equals, for probably the first time ever, waiting until it goes cheap instead of just spunking my cash on it anyway. I'm learning.

Edge gave it a 6: http://www.next-gen.biz/features/mafia-ii-review

Meh, I'm still just gonna wait it out. I've got Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 in the post, and Bioshock 1 and ME1 still to finish before those, and ACII, then Reach should be here.

Stop moaning about Limbo's score. You said you thought it was worth 8/10 - that's only one point apart!

(It totally deserved the rave reviews though)

I'm not really. I just know that I don't gel with the reviewer because I thought his Limbo review was absolute shite (not because of the score, just the actual bollocks review, which was awful), which is why I'm not overly trusting of his Mafia II review.

Good. Because Limbo is brilliant.

On topic, I never liked Mafia and the Mafia 2 demo felt GTA-lite but without Saints Row 2's madcap style and randomness to win you over.

Off topic, a friend of mine has been playing Kane & Lynch 2 and has been thoroughly entertained by it so far. Fuck it, I'm gonna try it out. Gamers need something dark and gritty to get their teeth into.

Gametrailers makes it look pretty damn good. I am seriously concerned about that EG review being a load of utter shit. The reviewer is an idiot, it seems. If you actually read his Limbo review, it's a load of crap that does little to actually describe what the game is like, and just spoilers most of the game if you haven't played it, before putting a score on the end.

Ian! He probably got the score about right, although I think it's an 8, but I'm talking about his actual review text. It's rubbish!

I'm still gonna wait for it to be cheap, though, because shit checkpoints are not good.

He also gave that XBLA Castlevania game 4/10. I don't like it, personally, but I don't think it's especially shit compared to other Castlevania games which always score highly. I think there's something wrong with this reviewer. He complains about dying and being sent back to the start of the level in the Castlevania review as well. Maybe he's just fucking rubbish at games.

It's not particularly setting the world on fire elsewhere though. If you weed out all the blogs you've never heard of most of those reviews are pretty "meh", I suggest.

It's certainly "meh", and worth waiting until cheapo, but it's not "the freaking terrible game" EG's reviewer makes it out to be.

How do you know? You're obviously itching to buy it, so do so then form an opinion. The first one was so utterly shit that there's no way I'd buy it.

No, but I've read a load of other reviews and I've played two of the games that reviewer recently reviewed and I disagree with them massively, as do a fair few people in the comments sections. We'll find out when it's a tenner. I'm just speculating.

Yes. I have almost completed it. And, I can firmly announce that the EG review was totally over harsh and completely cuntish.

It's a fucking good game this. The story is very good (even though there is a bit too much of it) and it's like a laid back GTAIV. Which is good, because I hate GTAIV.

The setting is absolutely brilliant, graphics to match and it plays out very well.

Not much more I can say to back it up without literally going into a barrage of spoilers but I totally endorse this game.

Wogan. Get it. Don't listen to Dim he has sand in his vagina. If you liked the first one then get this one. He didn't like the first one (ten for that? he must be mad !) so will obviously not enjoy this.

But it plays well, works well and thus could be a shit load worse. Personally I think it's fucking great, fuck GTAIV.

That is quite at odds with your previous posts on the game. Not only in this thread, but also...

It is. But the demo was crap.

It threw you straight into the deep end without any training at all and IMO didn't depict the actual game you get in any way.

I was also using the 360 controller which was a bad move.

The final version also runs a lot smoother.

Also

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The demo level was in a way absolutely nothing like the game you buy. That level does exist, but you don't live in that house or have those cars until WAY later into the game. Thus, the demo level is quite a difficult one from 50% or so into the game. The game gives you tutorials and everything and by the time you actually do that actual level it's much easier.

And I was completely wrong (which I thought I had said but I guess not) :)

Honestly, decent game, check it out.
