MMORPG from Realtime Worlds and very much in the spirit of GTA and Crackdown.

I got me one through RockPaperShotgun, but hooked as I am on Red Dead, I can't see myself playing it before actual launch. Anybody want mine, let me know.

You buy it for 35 quid and it comes with 50 hours of game time. You can buy time by the month, or in blocks of 20 hours and it never expires -- perfect for intermittent or light users like me.

You need more than 2gb of memory to meet the minimum specs apparently. But thanks, I got a key now I just need some more memory

Run Crucial's memory checker to see what you already have, then match it (without buying it from Crucial).

2Gb of RAM is about 20 quid, so they'd have to be some awfully slow women and cars.

Oh the prices have dropped then because last time I had a look for someone they were a lot higher than that.

Or I'm pulling numbers out of my arse. I haven't actually bought any RAM in ages.

Yeah, certainly a lot more since I maxed out my MacBook Pro when I bought it.

Indeed it is. When I picked up my MacBook a few months back the price difference between buying an extra 2Gb of DDR3 from apple versus a third party (and installing it myself) was only about £15. Which is madness. Especially when you consider the time cost of getting it delivered and installing it yourself (unibody, brrr).

Also I picked up an APB key a while back if anyone wants it.

APB's USP, when you are trying to get things done, it assigns you your very own griefers from the other side, who get points for stopping you from doing whatever it is you have to do.

It all doubled in price shortly after Jan 09 and has pretty much stayed there.

That was the reason I went with the Phenom as opposed to going I5 or I7 because I already had ram.

I know. But that doesn't stop me from being glib.

Although I have to say APB I found utterly unexciting from the moment they first announced it.

Although that may have something to do with my distrust of MMOs.

I thought it sounded cool and interesting. Then I played it and it was neither.

Yeah, by the time MS gave it the go ahead they'd already started making APB.

Which is where their defence ends, of course. "Microsoft wouldn't let us make an awesome game so we made a shit one instead" doesn't get them off the hook.

Ar the rumours were out a few days ago about this. I posted it in the games industry thing thread. They started by laying off 60-odd people from the Project:MyWorld... project.

So will people still be able to play APB online in this MMORPG world-me-do, if RTW have gone under? Does it run on RTW servers or is it peer-2-peer?

It's a server-hosted MMO. If I were a betting man, I'd guess the IP will get picked up by someone, who may or may not keep the game running. It had mediocre reviews and I think subscriber uptake was poor too, so there's a fair chance it's dead.

Reading that ExRTW post on RPS, one thing strikes me.

No rancour towards management. Half the time when you see stories like that from US devs, it is like reading a 14 year old throwing a hissy fit (management sucks, they are idiots, assholes, the project was led by a moron). That post is well thought out, reasoned, makes good points, accepts and allocates responsibility.

America, it's a bit different apparently.

I really liked the character designs. I had hoped to see what the character creator was like in the game but I didn't have a machine capable of running it.
