There was an online scan of a book somebody found from the 70s, full of future predictions, that was extremely cute.

All of the oil, gas and coal will have run out by 2050 or so, and I can't see us having sorted out alternative sources of energy and palstics EDIT plastics before then, let alone industrialised space exploration, so I reckon we're back to the opening sequence of 2001: Space Odyssey.
