It doesn't feel as good as the first time I stood in a newsagent, picked up PC Pro, and flipped through to find my article. The physicality of print puts that experience slightly ahead, but only slightly! And no, I'm not stopping here. I'm drafting a post about Minecraft in my head right now!

Oh, that app is cool. Separate focus and exposure!

I still wish I could have it 100% manual though.

Aye, this trick is for the Camera+ app, not the standard one that comes with the phone.

Oh wait, I have the free version, not the paid for version of Camera+.

I see nothing in the article that says it only works on the paid for version though, I blame the author.

This appears to have been pulled from the App Store now. Sods.

The app is great, but it's a bit buggy. When I exit the library section and go back into the ‘Take Photos’ mode, it immediately and automatically takes a photo for no reason, usually out of focus for obvious reasons. That, and it has occasionally completely refused to take photos until I manually quit (full quit) and restart the app.

Using the volume buttons as a shutter release I actually find awkward. If I've tapped to focus, and especially if I've second-tapped to set the exposure, my hands aren't in a decent enough position to use the volume any more. I could do without it.

As my commenters on TUAW pointed out, this bug is caused by the volume snap feature. If you turn that back off it goes away.

However, they also told me something else that made me swear off using the app altogether -- it doesn't record any EXIF at all on its pictures. No GPS tag, no exposure information, even the date/time fields apparently. Which is shit!

Ah, that's a bit shit. Well, the exposure is the only thing I genuinely find useful, and I still generally don't need to bother with that.

Nice article as usual DoccyG. Just one point — why the use of double hyphens instead of empaths or is that down to the site?

I seem to be in a position where a company, who's products I am a fan of, now send me their kit for review.

I'm not sure if this makes me a reviewer or a shrill. Luckily both items they have sent so far are wonderful and I'm happy to endorse them.

Well, TUAW rules are that any product received from the manufacturer has to be returned or used in a giveaway to our readers. We are strictly not allowed to keep it.

Boooo! Although it does save on the problem of if the product isn't any good. As I say I've been lucky with mine as both products are great.

I guess in my profession its good for manufacturers to know there are established professionals out in the field using their gear. Then other people will see it in use etc. The first thing I do if I see someone with similar setups to mine is start having a nosy about what kit they have. I had a conversation mid-meal at a wedding a few weeks back about the lens remote the videographer was using.

Well done on this Rich.

People who run game review sites - how many free games do you get for review, and do you think it's worth the effort of the reviews for the perceived return of free stuff?

The comments on your article sum up my thoughts too. It's hardly a like-for-like comparison (I know you've put caveats in there) when I imagine there's dross in the app store that you wouldn't want to play as a website flash game. With the formats you're comparing against there were no publicly accessible dev tools and ways of distributing your games easily. It's more indicative of the importance of mobile gaming as a whole rather than iOS specifically.

Whilst the conclusion of the article is not necessarily of any great significance - "iOS has more games than everything else put together" - because as stated in the article there are so many caveats, I still think it's bloody interesting and it's incredible how one negative comment can turn into an avalanche of idiots trying to get their variation of the same point in. You seem to have tickled a nerve. You can take solace in the fact that 99% of people don't bother commenting, and a huge percentage of those people probably had a positive opinion about it. It's generally negativity that inspires a comment.

And the first comment - "iOS is not a proper gaming platform" (essentially). It still amazes me when people have this opinion. And on a Mac site as well. It's usually people who haven't actually played any games on iOS who spout this bollocks.

This is pretty much all I was trying to say. People have read rather more into it than I was aiming for, then objected to that bit. Lots of people have done it though, so it's still my fault. I've added an extra few grafs to the end of the piece about this.

People do that because it makes them feel clever. They've deliberately misinterpreted the main thrust of your article. It's like deliberately failing to suspend disbelief in an action film and pointing out the bad science or whatever. It's extremely irritating, because it's impossible to counter as they're "technically" correct.
