Dude, I'm still fucking around with wooden picks, I didn't even know about buckets. How intensively are you playing this? 8)

A spider started chasing me when I mined underneath my house during the night and accidently broke outside. i ran away from the spider knowing it was nearly dawn and hoping I'd survive but I ran straight into a zombie. I saw my house in the distance and headed for it, scrambling in the door and closing it behind me. I was just beginning to relax when I heard the zombie moaning again and saw it shuffling around in the hole at the bottom of my house that I'd been mining through 8) :S :o
I managed to beat him to death with an axe though.

I really want to go home and play this. Miss Malabar is dragging me out somewhere shit tonight, though. You've made me be away from Minecraft all day, woman!

I think I've mostly got the hang of everything now. I might start again later and have a proper go at things now I know what I'm doing.

I accidently mined under the beach. Then the sea. Then mined up. Things got very wet as the sea came into my mine.

Enjoying this quite a lot. Building a castle in the sky at the moment.

I finally found coal! Went out exploring and decided to build a new house so as I didn't have as far to run to get away from mosters and then managed to stumble across coal so I have now got torches in my house. Think I'm ready for a wee bit of night time digging!

Yeah, mine inside your house during the night now, but do put a door between your living quarters and the mine. Just in case.

Also, never use coal in your furnace, at least not to begin with, too precious. Save for torchs. Planks work fine for the furnace.

Managed to build a stair case into The Deep Pit and hollowed out a the beginnings of little house half way down decent. That and found the location of waterfall too. Nows time to mine the hell out of these places and then get back to finish upgrading my Castle.

Keep looking it'll be there somewhere. I found it at the bottom of a hill, next to a river. Nearly flooded the place when I dug it up.

Anyone know how to place a ladder? I'm trying to put it on a bit of stone that I've dug out underneath my house so as I can mine down and get back up but it doesn't seem to be working ?:|

You'll only find monsters in the caverns you occasionally breach.

Oh Jesus....

I literally just screamed out loud, causing my poor dog to jump off the chair and woof before she realised I was laughing. I hit escape in a panic, I'm a bit scared to go back now!

Figured out the ladders, turns out I'm just daft. Wasn't trying to place them from the floor up instead preferring to attempt to stick them to the wall in the middle of the descent.

Nah, I've had them appear outside my fortress all the time, and inside. But not anymore because I worked out the secret.

But I don't really want to spoil the magic of what makes them appear for the others. :p

If you really want to know however:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I think the absence of natural/torch light makes monsters spawn. So you can get them in your mine if you keep it dark enough.

Nope. They spawn with torches, too.

Now and again you'll find underground rooms with a spawn cage inside them, destroy the cage and the monsters stop in that area.

I've lost all my equipment down the cavern from last time, so now I've got to start from scratch down there. Bah!

Oh, I thought he meant he had to work rather than play it.

Yeah, try updating your java-ma-thingy.

Also, I find the stand alone executable works really well, but the web page is a little flakey.

Nope. As soon as I was able I carted a bucket of lava upstairs into a small pit, so that I could just keep pressing "q" and all the gravel/rock/dirt I'd collected was burnded up.

Dimrill your mine is a thing of great beauty. I have just spent about an hour building an extension with loads of torches in an attempt to lure piggies to spawn there, so as I can get pork whenever I'm wounded. Which is a lot.

I tried running a server, but as soon as I try to connect to it, it blows away the box it's running on - so some more testing needed.

Awesome!

I was just looking at a minecraft forum and some people have made a sun! I think they trapped lava in glass or something but it looks very cool. It is incredible seeing what other people have done, I'm still just running around exploring!

I just build a chest and whack it all in there in units of 64. Is Quick.

No idea what happens to the contents of a chest if you destroy it. May disappear with it.

It doesn't, and the latest. I use the stand-alone version, but I'll be surprised if this turns out to not be a video card thing. Mine is utterly useless. My offline PC should be able to run it, I haven't tried yet, so no alarm bells yet. Means I'll likely finish DF before playing this much, though.

Taking moments out of toppo house party to view this thread...

First off, I'm thrilled that you lot also have terrible cowardly fears in exploring underground caverns.

Second, had a brief game to show the affair to a friend (he was impressed) and got myself killed trying to leave the house at night and show him some monsters. Do I feel a fool.

Third, I really don't know what to do next - I'm almost overwhelmed with possibility!

Hmm. Found stone with what appears to be large red bubbles in it. Don't know what it is, and my pick doesn't appear to be strong enough to mine it either.

I've went through to bed now and decided I'd watch some American Dad. An episode has just finished and I didn't watch any of it, preferring instead to re-read this whole thread to see if I'd missed anything useful and to laugh at the experiences everyone else is sharing. I am now wishing I had my PC in my bedroom.
This game is like crack!
