Last December, some ne'er-do-wells tried to defraud my debit card. My bank, Smile, were splendid and realised something was awry, preventing £700 leaving the account for dodgy phones, and all was well.
A couple of days after Smile contacted me, an unsolicited iPhone was delivered to my house, signed for by a neighbour. Sadly, it wasn't from some mysterious benefactor, but was residue from the fraud attempt.
I called the bank, who said they'd speak to the online store the phone was ordered from, and arrange a collection. A few days after that, I received a bill from the network. I called and explained the situation, and they cancelled the account.
It's now August, and said phone is still in my possession. What would YOU do? My conscience says i should contact the retailer directly to ask them to pick it up. But then, I really, REALLY want an iPhone, and I've done everything the bank told me to do...
So, Beex hive-mind, what would YOU do?

I would say you've done everything right so far. And are therefore in this sort of territory: Unsolicited Goods

Phone up whomever sent the phone and tell them they have 4 weeks to collect it, otherwise you'll hand it in to the police station as lost. Then don't worry about it.
EDIT: Chuck it in the bin if you received it in December. It's not an iPhone 4, so it's going to mark you out as a pauper. best get rid of.

Well, I would be careful, as it is clearly traceable to you. In order to save you, I will take it off your hands. I will even do this for free! Yes; I will not charge you a penny for this service.

When Fanny Stupid was good enough to get two iPads sent to her house (one for the Doc, one for me), my one didn't turn up before RG had to come home to the UK, so they cancelled it. The next day when she got home from work, there it was on her doorstep.
She gave it back. I wouldn't have.

its been over 7 months. Id say seeing as youve done everything right, and the shop were notified, its their responsibility to arrange collection. as they havent, Id just get it unlocked (if required) and start enjoying it.

Start using it. Battery'll last you until they ask for it back. On my 3rd iPhone 3gs due to wanky battery life.

Yeah, my gf's never had any issues with the battery on hers, other than the traditional iPhone shitty battery life of course. She has to charge it up every night when she goes to bed, but then I had to do that with both my 2G and 3G, so it's par for the course really.
Not that it helps you Stan, but the battery on the iPhone 4 is shitloads better.

When not using 3G and wifi, the iPhone 3GS battery is pretty decent. It lasts for about 4-5 days if it's just used as a phone.
