With an eye towards her birthday in September, my gf has started sending me links to interesting looking items. One thing she is getting quite keen on is a gaming chair with surround sound etc. Please give me opinions. Do you have one? Do you want one? HAve you tried one? Do you hate them? KAITHXBI x

PS she sent me this link. click.

From the experience of my 'phew's one, they're made out of polystyrene and the fabric wears away within two-three months.

I'd probably myself just get a ridiculously comfortable chair and not bother with surround and stuff, that way the chair is multi-use. But I can see the point of them.

You're an engineer, Gilly! Get an awesome comfy chair and make it a gaming chair! That would be an awesome present.

I think Zardoz's idea of a gaming/web browsing bog seat is a winner. Or perhaps incorporate a chemical toilet into the special gaming chair, that and a Haribo dispenser and you'd never need move.

Ha, that's a great idea! You forget though that I am also lazy. The light in my spare room hasn't worked for about six months and I still haven't bothered fixing it.

I hear benchmark reviews is a good place to go for unbiased impartial chair reporting. :attitude:

My inner cheapskate awakens! Hearken!

"Any ordinary item prefaced with 'gaming' is aimed at a market that will pay £200 for an over-engineered joystick to use with one game, then spend the next eight years trying to convince themselves it was a good idea. Get a super-comfy and sturdy normal office chair instead. Also I'm not paying for this round, I got you one on Saturday and you still haven't replaced my chicken pie. When did you last do the food shopping, I do i-mmmmfrgfhgrggh"

Christ, that was close. The things I do for you lot.

I have one of the Pyramat chairs (the older style which is actually a full chair - i'm sitting in it right now) - and i agree with Sinister Agents post above - get a normal chair.

This is the one I have

http://www.pyramatgamingchairs.co.uk/pc ... -chair-21/

(and no it didnt cost that amount when i got it)

And to answer your questions :

Do you have one?

Yes

Do you want one?

Since i have this one i dont need another chair - if i was buying a chair tomorrow i would not buy this one.

HAve you tried one?

Yes , what would you like to know about it - its a comfortable enough chair , its *loud* when you turn it up (i'm not allowed to) but its only really usable if your in the room yourself.
Wireless works , battery life on the main speakers is pretty poor.

> Do you hate them? KAITHXBI x

Not hate , just wouldnt really recomend them.

Saying that i used to have one of the more basic ones (with a stand) and it was a very comfortable chair - just the chair took up a lot of space and i had a separate chair to sit at my computer - so swapping to this one made sense at the time.

I've got to agree with everyone else. You'd be better off spending the money on a proper office chair.

That one linked above though, my mate has a bean bag that's a similar shape and its very comfy! It doesn't come with surround sound but its an excellent gaming chair and came at a fraction of the price.

I think 'gaming' chairs look quite lame (sorry), you probably don't need another person to chip in with 'get really nice regular chair instead' but there it is anyway.

Also a separate surround system will be way better than anything built in to a chair anyway.

Anyway.

These answers have been pretty much what I was expecting and I was planning to then be able to convince her that what she needed was an awesome big beanbag and a surround system but no such luck :( She says she wants clothes now ?:|

You're an engineer! Make her some clothes!

Out of sheet metal and LEDs.

This sounds way too much like something JC would buy and rave about, so if that isn't a warning to steer well clear I don't know what is. But maybe my crude xbox-playing behind lacks the technical know-how to appreciate such things.

I will confess it would be fun to sit in and pretend you were in "Flight of the Navigator" though.

You're money would be better spent on a 5.1 amp and speakers and play games sat on the sub.

Maybe with this cushion too.
