I think I was about 10, and climbing over a wall, and squashed a hornet that had landed there, the sting was stuck into the fat part of the palm of the hand connected to my thumb. It fucking hurt like mad. A friend's mum (who was a nurse) pulled the sting out with tweezers, put some cream on it and tried in vain to comfort me. I blubbed like a baby.

I got hornet-stung when I was five or six years old. I was putting on some pyjamas, which had been hanging outside on the washing line earlier that day. The hornet must've been hiding/resting inside one of the legs of the pyjama bottoms. It flew out and stung me on one of my legs. :'(

The car wash had a big sign saying that cars with spoilers shouldn't use it.

Although a "no chavs" sign might have had the same impact.

I would also like to add that if I caught Malc smoking I would rage quit the forum there and then.

Meanwhile the decoration of my home office is coming along. I started last Saturday and have been painting in my spare time.

I bought 1 tin of paint for the wall. None of that own brand shit, but nice Crown paint. 1 tin seemed a reasonable amount. After all, how much would I need.

I ran out of paint halfway so had to buy another tin. At this point I thought about getting a larger tin but alas none were in stock. 2 tins seemed like overkill considering the £21 per pot price and the fact I was halfway.

Then I ran out again today with only about 10% to go and had to buy yet another tin. So I should have just got 2 on Tuesday. Gah!

Painting has been a hateful and slow process. Despite the paint being "one coat" I've had to recoat parts and also go over bits with a brush. I guess that's the problem with going over a bland magnolia with something funky. If I'd just gone for the magnolia the previous owners had used the job would have been dead easy.

The total has been £63 worth of paint for the walls alone. But at least they are now a nice shade of blue. Fiji Blue to be precise. I think it's funky and calming, Mrs Chinny claims it is "gay".

Tomorrow I will start on the gloss work and start tidying. I also have a new desk and filing cabinet to funk up the place with.

Good win, Mr Malc!

Speaking of good wins - I played my first game of money-stakes beads-of-sweat poker since uni today, the first in nine years. Ten pounds in the pot, five of us at the pleasingly round, pokerish table. A four hour game it was of Texas Hold 'em.

Reader, I won! :DD

Plus got quite drunk on host's beer. :)

Before the Global Economic Crisis(tm), my employers would take us to Windsor Racecourse to bet on the gee gees after our half-year meeting. Last time we went I studiously studied the programme, checked the form of each hoss racing in each event and carefully chose which one to put my money on (£2 bets each time, I'm not much of a gambler). Won fuck all. Last race of the day I noticed I was down to just a ten pound note, so I chucked the programme in the bin and shoved the tenner on the hoss that I most liked the name of. 12-1 odds and it won! £130 in my pocket and the envy of virtually all my colleagues, awesome.

Hornet man has been. They were very aggressive when he got near the nest. He specialises in wasps and hornets and these were unusually aggressive apparently. Hopefully the treatment will work. They were literally falling out of the sky as he left.

He also said it was rubbish that a hornet sting was weaker than a horse fly (as claimed on the radio the other day).

Tsk, did you not read my thrilling series of texts updating you as to highs and lows of the game? (Well, three of them.) It was a mix of your 'instinct' advice which worked remarkably well (usually I try to be clever and second guess myself) and a little bit of training on Red Dead Redemption, and surprisingly little in the way of luck.

Best hands I got in the three hour (!) game were a couple of flushes, a fair few two pairs and a few threes - and lots of pairs, natch. Oh, and I got one straight at one point. Nowt exceptional. Was chargrined yet amused to find that an very strong hand at one point (two pair high, I think) was beaten by a flush. Alice was knocked out very quickly after some aggressive play that had us scared until we all realised she didn't know what she was doing. Adrian got knocked out next with bad hand after bad hand, forced to miser over a few chips until he almost had something, but was knocked out. Sue played strongly for a good while and the game turned in her favour at one point when I riskily threw a hell a lot in on what I thought were reasonably good cards, but, alas, beaten. By this point I was pretty drunk and judgement was impaired. Fortunately cold pizza sobered me a little and after Sue got knocked out railing against Tom's lead, it was down to me and Postman Tom.

This dual lasted a good hour, with him steadily whittling me down until an 'All in!' risky gambit by me turned the tide and got me narrowly ahead. Some conservative play later and me calling a bluff of his, and I got a flush that put me ahead even further. By then our agreed time limit was coming up, so after a mutually lacklustre final hand we counted up. I'd topped his chips by a third, and I gleefully cascaded the ten pound coins through my fingers repeatedly, laughing insanely.

Good times. Shall be doing this again, we're talking about it becoming a regular fixture.

The definition of pain is the pianist we've got in to perform in Cardiff Central library today. She's a singer-songwriter and she's the worst thing I've ever heard in alway. Discordant, jarring notes. Every song alternate plinky-plonky chinese chopsticks style. A thin, reedy, high-pitched shrill voice. Usually we get ten or twelve people in the performance space watching but for this one, nada. I'm two floors above in the open plan building and can hear. It's quite possibly the most agonising aural assault I've ever undergone. I've been literally putting my fingers in my ears. Amateurish doesn't begin to describe. I'm glad I'm not in the music library this rota-term, or I'd have to sit and watch as well.

I was supposed to take photos, but I physically couldn't get down to the third floor, I was repelled at three by the sheer awful. :S :'(

She seems to have stopped now. Phew. I think there's blood on my lobes. We really need some vetting procedure for these Saturday mid-day free performance things.

Speaking of things that make you despair, Teh Wiff was watching something on channel 4 called "Surprising Events While slicing Up Your Face Or Tits For Vanity's Sake" or something where they interviewed teenagers about cosmetic surgery. One 16 year old female specimen said "It's a shortcut to get the boy that you want."

Just... + :(

No idea where this would fit - probably in one of the piracy debate threads but :

http://kotaku.com/5601337/no-refunds-fo ... ynga-users

Zynga cancels a 'free' game.
However everyone who paid money for stuff in the game now finds that its worse than useless since it no longer exists.

They have tried to backtrack and give stuff for other games , but you get the impression this is going to happen a lot in the future

Surely they can have no real argument. I play a couple of the Zynga games and you don't have to buy anything.. it just gives you a headstart or a bit of a boost if you're impatient. I've not paid anything in them but I certainly wouldn't expect anything back if they pulled one of their games.

Carruth wrote, directed and starred in this understated, weird movie that came out in 2004. It's the most realistic depiction of time travel you're ever likely to see, and it leads to a temporal paradox that gets more interesting the more you think about it.

I slept too long. :(

UPDATE: Sorry folks - looks like Carruth has had a change of heart and taken the film down. You can find out more about the movie, or order a copy, on the official Primer website.

I'm moving in with my girlfriend soon, and not before time. If I stay living with my parents much longer, there will be murders. Whenever I have my 1-year old daughter round, they think the best thing to do when I'm trying to get her down for her nap is to stomp loudly around the house, shout things at each other, slam doors and just generally make as much noise as they can possibly make. When I'm trying to feed her, they all crowd round making stupid cooing noises and congratulating her every time she smears food everywhere or gets it in her hair, etc. When I get to bursting point and politely enquire why they can't all just fuck off for a bit, I get the "stop getting so stressed all the time!" comments.

Murders, I'm telling you.

They love my daughter to bits and I'm not moaning about that. They just inadvertently make things like mealtimes and nap times many times more difficult than they need to be. It'll just be nice when I'm not under their roof and so popping round to see them with my daughter can be a nice experience and not one which makes me want to violently bludgeon to death my entire family.

This is true with or without a young child involved in my vaguely recent experience.

In other news, I snapped under the weight of bargain pricing and am downloading two of the Borderlands DLC packs even though I'm only moderately enthused over the main game. My principles are flip-flopping around like a goldfish gasping on the shagpile and I feel vaguely dirty (and not just from the use of the word 'shagpile') :(

There are lots of doubles in there. Master System games can get very expensive if you go after the Brazilian Tec-Toy stuff.. I just get the basics.
