Right, fitting an oven, it doesn't come with a cable out the back(!). So, I remove the old oven and have 6mm twin and earth cable. However, this won't actually fit in the cable clamp of the oven. The oven calls for H-05 V V -f (or higher). However, I am having trouble isolating a single type of this rating, and most things seem to be called thing like 3183TQ, or some-such.

Am I right to be attempting to not use the T&E, or is it a case of if I can get it, it'll be fine? If I need H05 VV-f or higher, where can I find a list of what is actually higher. I am heading down to the local cable merchant tomorrow, but thought I would ask kalmar you guys first!

lol txt bak.

When you say "oven" do you mean just an oven or a full electric cooker? Wattage?

What it's asking for is heat resistant round 3 core flex, like a movable appliance has (kettle lead etc). Yes, you'll have trouble finding 6mm flex!

The rating means heat resistant to some temperature, so a higher rating would be withstand more heat. You're unlikely to have a choice though so don't worry about it.

Personally I would use the twin and earth and modify the cable clamp slightly (for example turn the top half of the clamp around so that it's secure.

OMG DON"T KILL URESELF!!!!

It is a single oven, no hob, 2.4kW.
I have managed to get the T&E into the cable clamp ("Cable clamp" - screw) and it seems to hold okay, with no obvious issues, so am going to go with that, as it is M#way more than this oven needs, and worked fine with the previous oven.

Now i just need to sort out the gas leak.

Why is T&E not supplied with yellow/green sleeving, but an instruction to buy some?

Ah, yes, it only actually needs 2.5mm heat resistant flex then, which is more available.

But as it's no doubt on a 40A breaker the 6mm is probably the lesser of two evils.

Thank you, I just wanted to check that 6 mm would suffice. Have to say, very surprised an oven came without a cable attached, having seen the attachment method.

There will be two SKUs: "oven" and "oven pre-wired". The pre-wired one is a fiver dearer so the retailer chooses the cheaper one. Because the consumer compares on price. Win!
