Based off what my brother tells me of his experience, you'd certainly need one to find it for the first few days after the procedure.

Also, there's a metric shit ton of beers with no real description on the menu and this is what I ended up looking like after making a proper effort to try as many as possible. I think the weakest one i had was 7.5%, the most awesomely named was either "Hercules Stout" or "Maximo Optima". They do this to you after a while.

Anyways, it's a beautiful town, and I'd recommend the boat ride around the canals, and cathedral is amazing. The Chocolate Musuem, less so, but for 6 Euro, it was a bit of a giggle.

Beer is a lot cheaper than in Nice (3 Euro for 250cl) , they don't speak french, and the Flemish Stew is brilliant.

Bruges was one of the (very) few places/things I liked in Belgium. I wouldn't describe it as "abso-fucking-lutely beautiful", but it was quite nice.
