I received an email from Paypal yesterday informing me that I had been invoiced for advice to get my site to the top of page rankings from someone who I have never had any dealings with.

When I checked Paypal it states that I have an invoice pending which seems to have been sent to a lot of people (group invoice) along with a note giving a web address to download this information and stating that If I am happy with the information I should pay X amount but that I can keep it for free.

I have not visited the site and have no intention of doing so but I can't cancel the invoice without notifying the sender and thus confirming it is a valid Paypal account which I really don't want to do.

Has anyone else received this kind of Paypal invoice spam and if so what action did you take?

Certainly sounds scammy.

The Group Invoice may be your friend here. Unless something about the payment deadlines is really urgent (i.e, auto settling from your account in 24 hours), holding fire for a couple of days and hoping someone else takes it up with Paypal which sees the whole set of transactions cancelled could save you some legwork and clicking on potentially dodgy links.

Thanks, I think I will take your advice. Certainly better than dialling an international rate number to report it myself or answering lots of irrelevant questions just to send them a message.

I found that even though it's not relevant, the only mailbox that doesn't get you an auto reply from the PayPal website is the one where you select from the drop down box that you wish to make a complaint about PayPal.
