It's going to be playable at GDC, so we can hope for some proper info after that.

That is quite beautiful, but it looks to be utterly plagued with inertia. I hate inertia heavy platformers.

That looks lovely, but experience tells me I'd have absolutely no fun after the first five minutes. I'm always initially charmed then utterly bored of platformers very quickly.

It looks excellent, but I too am cautious, as Little Big Planet looked like endless fun too from the trailer.

Also Fret Nice looked awesome but turned out to be one of the worst games I've played since Totemball.

:this:

I never learn either, right back from Jet Set Willy through Earthworm Jim through to Braid - I still buy the bastard things, eulogise about them for a couple of hours, then realise (AGAIN) that I basically don't like platformers and never play it again.

Just finished this.

Fucking incredible. Review embargos go up tomorrow, and it's out on Wednesday.

Review embargos aren't really a bad thing.

Review embargos with conditions attached to them are.

Edit: Oh, and embargos after release date are bad too.

Why should they exist? Why should a publisher have a say on when things can be said about their products? You already see them threatening to withdraw advertisements on a bad review, or even getting people sacked on the back of mediocre ones. Why should an arbitrary date be set for the unveiling of a review? To quote a twat, it's bulllsheeeeeet.

Suppose a publisher sends copies to all the websites on 1st June. The websites can run their review whenever. What happens? A shitload of quarter-baked reviews published on 2nd June is what happens, as the sites all rush for the exclusive. If the publisher puts an embargo on the release of the reviews there's at least a fighting chance the reviewers will have played it. That's in everyone's interests.

If a reviewer doesn't want to agree to an embargo, he doesn't have to get an advance copy. He could buy it at a shop like everyone else. On the flip side, if the publishers are providing advance copies, I think it's an acceptable condition for them to require reviewers to publish their reviews all at the same time for maximum launch-day publicity.

I can partly see your point, but at the same time disagree with them leveraginggingeing any power over reviews at all.

If the trade is "advance copies for an agreement you don't jump the gun with your review", I'm not concerned at all. Deals that embargoes can be broken for good scores or for embargoes to be held to post-launch-day are both signs of weak publisher confidence in the title and should be regarded as strongly negative reviews. Although that suggests Ram Raider were well off with their proclamations of Batman: AA fiddling, seeing as how it was a fine game. It's possible Ram Raider got it wrong of course.

Lewie, when reviewers agree to an embargo date, do they also agree not to reveal the date?

I certainly didn't on this occasion.

Edit: and lots of outlets tell people to "look for out review of X in the morning" or whatever. I've never been asked to keep them secret.

That's the ideal, to my mind. Widespread knowledge of when the embargo date is, so consumers can think "ruh roh" if it's the week after release or one publication amongst many releases a glowing review early.

1200. All of the "summer of arcade" titles will be as much.

Looks gorgeous, and quite scary.

Might have to get this. I await the review with interest. I don't like platformers on the whole, but made an exception for 'Braid'.

Don't play it too much otherwise they'll introduce a "playing the game you bought" tax/fine.

1200 points? It's not even in colour!

(Also, didn't Grim... post a similar looking flash game the other day?)

((Yes, he did. I'll play that.))

(((Played that. Very good. Might get this next.)))

I had to stop reading the spoiler-tastic Eurogamer review. After just the first page already two apparently key moments in the game were ruined. Now I will have to wait until they put it on offer before buying and hope that, by then (probably next week, the way things are going), I will have forgotten about it.

Not reading a review on Yerpgonks as they're full of shite.

Playing it now and it certainly likes to Rick Dangerous you quite often.

Just had a go of the trial. Very subtle little traps and stuff to watch out for. It's cute, I'll probably pick it up when I buy some points. I also liked/disliked the use of a couple of fireflies hovering above your head. You look at them and think "aww", then SNAP.

So I'm at a big fucking spider which kills me if I get too close. I can see a trap on a branch a wee while back but can't reach it, throw anything at it, or find anything to interact with. I can't backtrack because there's a deadly 4 foot of water blocking my path. Stuck.

I suspected that it'd come down to squinting at the screen pressing B repeatedly until something happens.

Sorry, but the gameplay in this is just Rick Dangerous trial and error shit. Precious little, if any, forewarning of traps. You just have to blunder in to them then try to avoid them when you're transported back to the last checkpoint.

Deffo seems so. Looks nice, but trying to actually make out what interactivableivele with is a hole pain. Plus Rick Dangerous, of course.

Fucking thing. Case in point: two massive hammer things are hanging from the ceiling. Both have floors underneath that look like ____----_____ "Ah!" I think "That must be a switch that drops the hammer crushing you!" So I walk onto the ground preparing to jump over the raised bit. Hammer descends crushing me. The raised bit was the safe zone. Try again and jump onto the safe zone and onto the ground before the 2nd hammer. Jump onto what I presume to be the safe zone under the 2nd hammer, it descends and crushes me. It was a switch! Arf.

I play it for 5 minutes and just switch off my Xbox in disgust.

I've put an (entirely useless) "go prone" action into (the never to be finished) Little Savages 4 as an in-joke :)

That reminded me that I hadn't had any RSS updates on my little savages since the 17th of July and I've just logged in to check on them and they're all gone? Where did they go?
