I've recently downloaded iTunes and would like to use it as well as Windows Media Player. All my music is stored on C:/Users/public/public music and WMP automatically updates the library when I add a new album or song to this folder.

Can iTunes do the same?

I've had a quick search and people are saying that it can't... is this correct? It seems like a simple thing it should do so am I missing something?

ITunes is very self-important. Why would you be adding music directly into the directory? You add music via iTunes, of course. ITunes. Look at me, I'm iTunes.

Can't you Use iTunes to consolidate an iTunes library from all of your system, delete the wmp folder, then change the default wmp location to be the iTunes directory? I'm sure that worked for me once.

Yes, but if you then drop in another file, iTunes won't update the library.

Meant to say I then used iTunes to rip going forward. Although you can make iTunes search the folder manually.

Not automatic, but just drag the folder into iTunes and it sorts it.
