Work is underway on it according to MCV.

Maybe Microsrofula will drop this ridiculous Kinect shit and concentrate on a new Xbox now.

Yep! Rumours are apparently it'll feature the Top Gear test track and it has already been in development for a number of years.

Heh, no. Old = shit, according to Sony. Forget that PS1 and 2 were, you know, two of the most successful consoles ever...

Hmm I dunno. If I was a cynical person (:P) I'd say that Sony think Old=still profitable. The lack of proper backwards compatibility would mean that they could get away with selling you the game again via the PISSYNAN network. See: Final Fantasy VII & IX.

I am looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 5, which lasts for three solid months of Snake going "Hwwaurhh" and fires a tranquiliser dart at everyone in the room if you pick up the controller.

I for one thank Sony for refusing to make things backwards compatible. If they had, I'd have bought a PS3 instead of a 360 and remained loyal to the brand whose PS2 gave me so much joy... a narrow escape, and rather a daft move on their part I think.

I totally agree with the backward compatible argument, I hated the way Sony stopped all the PS1s and PS2s working when they released the PS3...

Err, PS1 games work fine on the PS3. I have played my disk version of FFVIII through no problems, and all the other PS1 games I own work (Inc. FFVII, FFIX)

It's only the PS2 compatibility they removed, and you can't download similar off PSN.

I didn't realise PS1 games worked on it either. Although I've got a couple of PSOnes with screens so it's never really crossed my mind.

I don't give a shit about backwards compatibility. There, I said it.

Not once have I wanted to play an original Xbox game on my 360, nor did I ever want to play a PS1 game on my PS2. Couldn't care less.

Yeah, but, there are some truly ace PS2 games that I didn't play. Such as Shadow of the Colossus and God of War and stuff. I got rid of my PS2 before those came out. I'm done with the PS1 era, though. I was very annoyed when I realised my PS3 wouldn't play PS2 games.

You can pretty much guarantee that every Xbox game I have actually wanted to play hasn't been on the list of supported titles. Oh, except Pirates! I think - when I went to play that, I realised my brother had it. If you're going to do backwards compatibility, do it 100%.

Same thing here. I wanted to play JSRF not so long ago and that doesn't work in PAL areas. It's supposed to but doesn't.

When I got the PS2 the PS1 was never started up again. In fact it hadn't even been started for an age and I gave it away. Terrible console with terrible graphics and games I was glad to see the back of.

The PS2 was better but again hasn't been started since I got the Xbox.

Compare that to how often I fire up the Megadrive, Dreamcast or C64! The Playstation was a terrible console that was total hype above everything else. Bland gaming for the masses. If it were a colour it would be beige.

I've been playing Guitar Hero a bit on the PS2 lately because PS2 guitars can't be used on the PS3 without a special adapter. Also PS3 guitars won't work with it.

Is this all they could come up with? No hyperbolic name for the main processor? No promises of heightened experiences only achievable because of the POWAAAAAR of PlayStation?

Sorry Sony, but it hasn't been emotional.

Why would they give you BC when they can release them in HD on the PS3 and charge you another tenner for them? They've already done the GoW collection. As far as I'm aware, Ico and SotC are next.

~£10 each for Ico & SotC would be a bargain though, they go for fucking silly money on ebay & hunners of folk still haven't played them.

The only reason I want a PS3 is for the Last Guardian. HD remakes of the first two would be great too thanks.

realised we're complaining about the end of lifecycles of consoles (4 effective ps2 years), and we're allready on iphone 4 after 3.. how come we replace our phones that much faster (the subscription subsidy as only reason?), or are the improvements that much more incremental?

Apps written for iPhone 3 work on iPhone 4.

Games created for the XBox don't (typically) work on the 360.

If you don't EOL your software line, frequent hardware platform changes are easy to swallow. If you do, people won't be so keen to upgrade.

Aye, they need to write a custom emulator for each game to make them work.
