Info!

Hello Tinkerers!

OK, if you're going phone the campsite (017687 78097) and book Saturday 21st August (or maybe Friday the 20th too) in groups of er, probably no more than 4 so we don't get rumbled! Then post back in here when done.

Website is here again: http://www.stayinthornthwaite.co.uk/

Anyone fancy meeting up for some Walking/Photies/Camping/Boozing?

In the Lake District?

Sometime in the Summer?

Maybe! (if I can afford it.) I love the Lakes, I do. As long as I get to Grasmere for Gingerbread, I'll be a happy man.

In. Lake district suits me fine, it makes a pleasant change to climb foreign hills ;)

It shouldn't cost that much really.

I'm thinking plan on meeting up on a Saturday morning (folks could always stay over the Friday night) head out on a walk (nothing too serious) and either head home or get shitfaced and camp / B&B that evening?

It'd likely be a camping trip for me to save costs. I'd rather not put Miss Malabar through all that driving and walking in one day.

Could be fairly cheap though, so it sounds likely at the moment. But gingerbread.

Depending on the weekend, definitely.
It's usually good to camp in a field with a pub attached as that makes getting a big evening meal and stumbling back to the tent easier

Hey this thread is completely open to the Hive Mind. My suggestion was only to act as a starting point for folks to add and take away from. Camping is fine by me too.

Have to be near a nice pub though.

Gingerbread, yes.

Technically Im working in a hostel in the south downs at the moment (there aren't many other hostels around but there's plenty of walking)
and also if there is room the manager will let friends stay for free apparently... could be a possibility...
/not the lake district however

We're in for the Lake District depending on the weekend, although with enough notice I'd imagine we could probably try to arrange time off work. I like the idea of camping, walking, drinking and BBQ together at a campsite!

August should be fine for me. I think we should probably book a hill to walk on though, it can get pretty busy.

Can I suggest this campsite as one I've been to a few times:

http://www.stayinthornthwaite.co.uk/?c= ... rm&a=index

There's a pub five minutes walk away with nice food and some good walking from there too. The owners are pretty mellow and you can have campfires, which isn't something you can do on most sites. It's also toward the north so not quite as far for the Scotchlanders to travel.

That looks quite nice, though it says ‘No groups.’ Bassenthwaite is lovely, and so incredibly quiet, and Derwent is nice though incredibly busy in the summer. I don't like Keswick much.

I really want to stay near Wastwater at some point, but it's a right arse to get to, and there's absolutely nothing there. Great for walks and photos; not so great for pubs and staying clean.

I don't think they're that arsed really, there were loads of groups there when we've been. If we roll up in a few cars and pitch our tents next to each other then they'll only kick off when you get drunk and out of order.

Well, I'm feeling restless and rather like the idea of a couple of nights' drinking camping and hiking.

Weekend of 21 August? I'd think about coming up Friday night, leaving Sunday afternoon, but could be tempted for an extra day either way.

The campsite listed above looks great - to get round the 'no groups' thing we could just book individually. Or just search for a different field with a pub attached.

To be honest we'll struggle to find a site that doesn't exclude groups. All they don't want is people being noisy and unpleasant. So yeah, if we book separately and since we'll be turning up at different times anyway I don't see there being a problem, apart from the Zardoz factor obviously.

I think we could do with maybe trying to sort out two possible dates so that if the first one is a washout then we can hope for better weather for the second.

Any of those dates is probably fine with me, so I won't vote. The only decider for me at the moment is money, but it should be fine now I'm very almost completely debt-free.

I have an extremely epic tent which, assuming it hasn't rotted in my leaky shed, I could bring along to this enterprise. I have most other stuff. I might be up for this.
