It's a game of that basically. Plays a bit like a simpler Uplink (in a good way) set in the present day you are a university program that has accidentally achieved sentience and you have to boot strap yourself up to achieve.....[mysteriously left blank]

You start by taking over home PCs and renting web servers and end up doing all sorts of awesome stuff.

It' a bit buggy, in my best attempt I came to a halt when a bug meant I couldn't research

- I suspect this is fixed in the latest version of Windows people.

Mac users you will probably need to download the second newest version as the latest won't load for me

This is especially entertaining if you believe that the singularity is a possible event (if we let ourselves do it) like myself.

I'll post some hints soon.

HINTS AND TIPS

PLAY ON VERY EASY - THE GAME IS VERY HARD
Use the keyboard shortcuts to prevent RSI

Beginner hints - have a go before you read:

You have 23 odd days where no one is looking for you so you don't need to worry. Go crazy. Use key short cuts to buy lots of stuff

I've also found that:

spamming servers and researching lots of stuff that lets you build warehouses in the first 23 days means you can build one warehouse as soon as the heat starts. Then destroy everything else - except maybe a back up place lowers your chance of detection significantly. Take your time with stuff. And don't feel ashamed to reload for a do over.

You do realise the last PC game you started a thread about was Dwarf Fortress? ;)

Nope. But if we all play it, then it can be a shared experience.

Hmm, I think I nearly won this on "very easy" but wasn't paying attention and they stomped me. I had about 10 trillion in the bank as well, which was annoying.

I played this for about an hour last night and really enjoyed it. It certainly does invoke the atmosphere of Uplink and I can't help but wonder if the designer had the idea whilst playing Introversion's game, though this is quite different.

I had to have a couple of restarts while I got the hang of how the game plays, but I left it last night with a save game with a warehouse in each area, each maxed out with clusters and one maxed with mainframes, two covert back-up servers and several million quid in the bank. The only problem is the suspicion levels for Covert and Public were dangerously high, but since I've managed to get my detection percentages down, they've started to drop.

It's really very good. I hope the designer manages to get a good job somewhere out of this, as this does seem to have been done as a portfolio piece.

The builds on the site are dated Jan 2009 but there are check-ins in the source control through to last week. So it's probably worth building from source if you're set up for it.

Well, I've finished it on Very Easy. Time to ramp up the difficulty I guess.

Cheers. Will try. The tech tree bug happened again, so it seems I can't finish the game regardless of what I try with the older Mac version.

I must say that I did indeed find "Very Easy" difficulty to be, er, very easy. I might have to give it a go on a harder difficulty as maybe more stuff happens then. I felt a teeny bit dissappointed with it in the end.
