I want to know about your spectacular fantastical nightmares. Not for any particular reason. Just curious. Inspired by the ghost hunter thread.

I don't want to know about anything mundane such as simply someone you love dying (upsetting though such things are, obviously). I want true horror movie stuff.

I'll recount some of my own in a bit but right now I'm busy working.

My nightmares are always, always stuff in the bed/coming out of the bed. Spiders, barbed wire, inter-dimensional flesh-eating worms. They last long enough for me to leap out of bed and throw off the duvet, at which point I realise.

My regular, boring nightmares are always of the "Shit, I never finished my degree/exams, and I now have to bluff my way through life" variety.

The nasty ones always come when I befriend someone, and then that someone turns out to be evil, and they reveal themselves very slowly, inevitably, and there's nothing I can do about it. This often involves something weird happening to their eyes, and they burrow into my skull and I'm powerless to stop it, just lying there knowing that everything has gone wrong and there's no way back.

I did not sleep last night because I put my back out doing some DIY. I went to sleep this arvo for about two hours and had a really odd one, so here goes.

The dream began with me in a wheelchair. I would imagine that this was because I spoke to an old school friend I have not seen since I was 10 yesterday and he told me he was crippled by a spine tumor. Any way I was on a cruise ship. As I went around the ship I began to see people from my past (old friends) but my brain was not allowing me to recognise any of them so I was just staring at them whilst they were saying my name and staring at me.

I then went back to the kitchen part of the ship where my mother was cooking me some skate (the fish) but it was in breadcrumbs and had a marinade that made it taste really different. It also did not have the cartlidge. I began eating it and she asked if she could taste it. I got really annoyed and smashed the kitchen up, throwing glasses everywhere and smashing them.

Then I was back in my home town which I have not been to or seen for over ten years. I was in the town center and I was on foot wearing only a pair of shorts. No shoes, no socks, no Tshirt.. Just a pair of England shorts (which I hate, I refuse to wear any kind of ENGLAND kit in public as it's chav or tatooed alcoholic person wear). A couple of pikeys approached me (normal for the area) and asked me if I could possibly help them get into their flat. I said no, as I knew it meant I would be mugged if I went down the alley that goes through the shops. I walked away and they came up to me again, this time asking for a cigarette or money. I said no to both becoming aggressive and they finally got the message and left me alone.

I continued to walk through the town and then all of a sudden I was back in my wheelchair struggling to get over a mound in the grass (my town center had a green in the middle.. very odd, there used to be a band stand there) I became quite annoyed then noticed the tyres on my wheelchair were very flat. I remembered saying to some one "Fuck, I'll have to walk and my back is really bad at the moment" before getting up out of the chair and walking away, leaving it there.

The next part involved me walking through alleys and cutting through (as I used to do as a child) before getting to a part that looked like my old house. I opened the back gate and walked up to the house and opened the back door. When I opened it though the entire kitchen was gutted and I could hear a television in the room next door. I then realised that this was not my house after all and I was in a strangers house. I immediately left, jumped over the side gate and came out in a small housing development that looked very American. Figuring I was now completely lost I started walking before seeing a sign that sent me either back into the town center or toward where I lived about 12 years ago. I walked toward where I lived about twelve years ago.

And as I was approaching my old house I woke up.

It wouldn't be so clear or vivid had I left it any longer, but I have literally woken up 30 minutes ago so here I am. I was only asleep for about an hour and a half.

HTH !

(I'm also on new medication, which I know caused that dream).

I used to have those in my twenties. To the point where my ex wife would tickle my feet whilst I was sleeping just to wake me up. The bitch.

I recall watching the South Park episode The mexican staring frog of Southern Sri Lanka one night whilst drifting off (TV on sleep timer) which I then had a nightmare about (the frog). I dreamt that the staring frog was real and I opened a wooden box to find it staring at me. I woke up on the floor about 4ft away from the bed with a dislocated shoulder. I had literally leapt clear of the bed and landed on my shoulder in fright.

I had a nasty moment last night where it turned out that humans have a thing that grows in the throat, sort of like a cocktail stick but soft tooth-like material. Mine grew too long so I had to reach into the back of my mouth and snip the excess off with my fingernails because it was making me wretch.

Deliberately gagging myself because my body was gagging itself. Nice.

I kinda wish I hadn't bothered finally getting to sleep some time after 4, actually.

Gah!

Also: retch.

There is a thing which can build up in the throat though.. in the tonsils maybe?

Maybe you'll find some more in this massive thread about dreams and nightmares that we already have :p

[w]retch; gah!

Tonsililiths caused by tonsilitis, yeah. I get them, though hardly any these days. And this was a very different thing.

I thought of that, forgot to mention it, went away, came back and posted instead. Excellent. I blame the sleep deprivation.

I didn't fancy wading through dreams of various kinds. I wanted your nightmares and specifically fantastical ones. Thus this topic was entirely valid.

I got scared that a pigeon flew straight into my face. Then I woke up and looked around my room for it. Does that count as a nightmare?

It might count as a nightmare but it doesn't count as interesting or fantastical.

As a child (about 9 or 10 maybe) I had a dream that my bedroom floor was covered in nasty looking worms with barbed teeth at one end. When trying to sneak par them I accidentally stood on one and it 'barbed' me. I panicked and ran to my mum (still in dream) who looked devastated and cried her eyes out. She told me that there was nothing she could do, that I was going to die.

I woke up and, for the first time, I was utterly aware of my mortal existence and that one day, I *was* going to die. After that, I suffered from insomnia for about 5 years.

Does that count?

Hmm. Almost. Terrifying but not quite fantastical enough for my liking. 5/10.

Anyway here's one of my recent ones.

For some unknown reason some parasite like creature had attached itself in my right hand groin (please ignore the fact that it looked a bit like a 360 Wireless network adapter) and I could feel its tendrils pushing up into my body. It was able to communicate with me psychicly and was telling me not to resist. It was uncomfortable in the extreme but not exactly painful. It was highly unpleasant. Its tendrils were wanting to reach my brain I do believe. I was resisting its advance, thinking I might beat it. It tried to tell me it was a symbiote and would in fact enhance me if it could connect with my brain. It would improve my physical strength, reaction times and whatnot. It was not evil. The discomfort would stop if I allowed it full access. It argued that after all there had been little effect on me since it had joined my body.

So ultimately I agreed and it made the connection. Shortly after, my skin started to open up like grazes all over my body and disappear..

Were you sleeping with a 360 wireless adapterby your groin, by any chance?

If so, why?

Had a dream last night where my bed was covered in rats and I was being attacked by them. I was in my bed so I threw off the duvet. Wasn't very nice.

At 4D, had you been playing Another World by any chance?

Yup, that's pretty much exactly what I get, though the nature of the 'threat' varies wildly. Sometimes I stave off lucidity long enough to rant incoherantly at the wife about it for a few seconds.
