From TrueAchievements;

Quote:
EA Sports announced the next part of it's "Project 10 Dollar", which packed in one-time redeemable codes in games like Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The next phrase of "Project 10 Dollar" is called an Online Pass, which will function similarly to the codes found in Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, but rather than bestowing free DLC to the player, they will allow the player to play online in that selected title.

That's right, a code to play online, which is why a vast majority of us pay for XBL Gold.

But what if you bought pre-owned? Don't worry, you can always buy one off of the XBL Marketplace for the meager price of 800 mp.

And have no fear if you bought or downloaded DLC, you can still play the content if you do not have an Online Pass, you are just restricted to offline modes only.

However, there is a 7 day trial if you do not have an online pass, so you can still squeeze in some online play.

Online Pass is set to start on June 8, with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.

This can't be right, can it?

According to that, if you want to play online and you haven't bought the game brand new.. then you've got to pay again?

Good job I have no intention of getting Tiger Woods.

Is an odd thing to do, charging for online play, when EA servers famously buckle whenever they release a new game.

And they also "turn off" servers after a while.

So if you bought it , and then paid to play it online , what happens when 18 months later they turn off the server ?

I understand they are trying to stop / block / screw up the second hand market but it seems they do also want to really annoy their customers as well , i think they should go the whole hog and add in additional DRM to the releases with Lenslock and typing in lines from the manual before you get the chance to start a game.

If true there's only one way to deal with it: vote with your wallet.

I tried to do that last Thursday but it wouldn't fit through the slot in the ballot box.

Oh, well national elections are different. You need to use the postal vote method - just for your future convenience, the address is:

Mr E O A Era
Era Cottage
West End (of a)
Hants
GU99 7BX

For a long time, I've thought we should have a female POTW for a change. They don't do funny often, but when they do, it works.

If I had realised you had been so cheeky when you complimented me earlier I would have been less nice to you. >:|

Ah, forum realisation is different. For that you should send your wallet to:

Mr E O A Era
Era Cottage
West End (of a)
Hants
GU99 7BX
