I decided it was time for this game to get it's own thread. I am a member of the Fallout fan club on Facebook so I will post what they do whenever I can in this thread.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Top Men working on the Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition have been hard at work on a pack that will trump your expectations, and today we can finally share the first details with you guys.

As you can tell from the above image, every extra has been crafted to resemble items from the world of New Vegas, from the distressed deluxe box to the poker chip recreations. On top of that, this stuff won’t just look great on your shelf — it’s also surprisingly functional. Did we mention the hardcover Fallout comic, and the full deck of New Vegas-themed playing cards?

The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the CE will all include the following:

♠ Seven “Lucky 7” poker chips, each designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.

♠ A fully customized Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game. Use the cards to play poker, blackjack or Caravan, an original card game that was created by Obsidian especially for New Vegas.

♠ A recreation of the game’s highly coveted “Lucky 38” platinum chip.

♠ A hardcover graphic novel “All Roads” that tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas. “All Roads” was written by Chris Avellone, the game’s creative director, and created in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics.

♠ ‘The Making of Fallout: New Vegas’ DVD. This documentary DVD will contain exclusive video content, including interviews with the developers in which they take you from concept to creation and discuss topics such as story, setting, legacy of the Fallout franchise and more.

North Americans can pre-order at any participating retailer — like GameStop — starting today. European pre-orders will be available throughout Europe in the weeks to come.

This has been mentioned an awful lot. Apparently the people developing it worked on the original Fallout games. That means the original enemies have been reinstated (geckos etc).

I checked the price of the ltd ed box on Gamestop earlier and it's $59.99 U.S which is bugger all. Whether or not we will get off that lightly I don't know. Either way as long as it doesn't cost more than £150 I will definitely be pre ordering it :)

In my humble opinion I think the only way for them to do that would be to over do it. As of now they have a perfectly working game engine to use and masses of textures and ideas given to them from Bethesda's cookie jar.

The problem could occur if they try to add too many asses to their swine and it all becomes a mess.

It's definitely a very tough balancing act. They have to out do Fallout 3 but at the same time must keep it sort of the same.

Looks like they are taking on this new DLC trend. You can buy different versions of the game with different weapons and so on.

Producer speaks about the game. Apparently its size is comparable to Fallout 3. I hope that doesn't mean it's smaller.

Hey peeps, just a heads up.

Game are now allowing pre orders for the collector's edition.

It's £20 cheaper on PC and only a cockel more than the regular one through Steam 8)

So, if you have a PC that can run Fallout 3 then you can pretty much rely on it running NV 'cos it's the same engine and textures.

Linky here. Being that it's such a fair price I have decided to cancel my US pre order (because shipping would ramp it) and pre order on game :)

Only the regular edition is $59.99 at Gamestop. The collector's edition is $79.99 like it is at the rest of the major retailers. Well, it's $79.99 for the console editions and $69.99 for the PC one.

It was actually $69.99 yeah, more than I remembered. My friend is a DM at Gamestop though so it was roughly $50 something IIRC.

No point now though, I was just worried they were going to pull a Frito Bandito number on us Brits again like they did last time.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fallout-3-UK-Co ... 012&sr=8-3

£99.99. On release it was £169.99 bastards.

Does anyone know if the PC version of this will be a Steamworks thingy? I like the look of that Collector's Edition, but desire the simplicity of having the game integrate through Steam - ie, not having to stick the disc in everytime I want to play it.

New Vegas is Steamworks on the PC.

I think all the DLC will be sold through steam too.

Edit: No reason to buy it on Steam though. The retail version is loads cheaper. Steam RRP is £35, and £5 off if you preorder.

Dang! I wandered around and got killed a lot, then I killed some radio DJ guy who was seemingly intrinsic to the plot and quit, never to play it again. I'll do it after Mass Effect 1 & 2. I have a ridiculous number of games that haven't been played properly.

I feel like Cartman in that episode of South Park where he freezes himself because he can't stand the wait for the Wii.

Ugh. Just release it already !!!!!

I'm 99% sure this isn't going to be MP. Infact I know it isn't because Beth and Inter are still fisticuffing over that.

So, nodvd and add it in Steam FTW.

One important thing is that there is noone thats 'intrinsic to the plot' that you can actually kill - doing things in a different order and at different times can mess up the achievements but it doesnt really affect the game.

Also its a game which really you can (and to a certain extent should) ignore the main story quest for a long time.

As I understand it, though I may be wrong about this, Steamworks is essentially the Steam DRM system. Steam's DRM is actually good DRM for a change IMHO, as it allows you to play the game without a disc in the drive, provided you're logged in to Steam. But! Steam has an offline mode, so as long as you do log in every so often, you can keep playing your games through it, without the need for discs, to your heart's content.

I like it anyway, if only because if we have to suffer DRM, at least it's a fairly unobtrusive one, though I appreciate it's not popular in all quarters.

if a game uses Steamworks, it means every single release, be it retail or from another DD place, activates on Steam, as if you bought it on Steam.

Edit: If it is a retail release, you can install off the disc (through Steam) to save you downloading it all. Then you can throw away the disc.

Sounds a lot like I'd want out of a new fallout, aside from a new engine and some better animation.

Haha !

I want to know what happened to the female mutants :( They were in the very first pics released, but I have not seen them since. Hopefully they decided to keep loads of stuff secret, because they looked utterly hilarious.

I'm glad it's being called silly because Fallout 3 was silly. As they said in the making docu "There was no reason to make this game feel real because the reality is not something you really want to think about".

Meh. Only 59 days to go :nerd:

IGN thingy on New Vegas from TGS

http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/112/1121248p1.html

Quote:
There's something about attending foreign trade shows that makes me feel violent. Maybe it's the friction of rubbing so roughly against an unfamiliar culture for days on end. But it's probably the drinking.

I've been in Japan covering the Tokyo Game Show for the past few days, and it's been a great experience so far. I love Japanese culture and games, and it's always a blast to hit the show floor and take in all the sights and sounds. But playing an endless string of foreign games is a bit like eating unfamiliar food for days on end. After a while, you're tired of exotica and just want to get your hands on something familiar.

So after wading through piles of Gundams or whatever for a couple hours at the Makuhari Messe convention center on the outskirts of Tokyo, I made my way to the Microsoft booth, where Fallout: New Vegas was hidden in a corner behind a white fringe curtain. Like the glowing lights of Vegas itself, it pulled me in, and I couldn't resist. I stepped up to the booth, ignored the mumbled warnings of the attendant that the build was all in Japanese, and cracked my knuckles.

For some reason, Bethesda Softworks is pushing New Vegas pretty heavily in Japan, despite the fact that it's based on most of the Western RPGs hallmarks Japanese gamers tend to turn their noses up at. It's first-person, it's full of interactive dialogue, it's completely non-linear, and it's not packed with doe-eyed anime girls. During my time in Tokyo this week, I've seen several high-profile ads for Fallout in videogame store windows and in magazines. The publisher has even gone so far as to ridicule Japanese RPG cliches in some of the ads, which is a bold move that's sure to… be ignored.

And that's a shame, because Fallout is just the sort of game you want to play after taking an hour-long train ride home from work, packed in like a pickled fish with a thousand of your closest anonymous friends, or being jostled by fellow gamers in a sweaty convention hall while people shout at you though megaphones.

The Fallout: New Vegas Japanese demo started in a nondescript courtyard peppered with non-player characters. They looked like your typical Fallout folk, except they were muttering things in Japanese. The demo attendant watched quizzically as I opened my PIP Boy, de-selected the pre-loaded rifle and selected a scary looking glove with spikes strapped to it. And then I began to systematically punch everyone in the courtyard.

I've played countless hours of Fallout 3, using nearly every outlandish weapon I could get my hands on. Because I was so smitten by the sheer volume of projectile weaponry in the game, I never got around to using melee weapons. So what better way to kick New Vegas's tires than by pummeling everything in sight?

To my surprise and delight, the Japanese menus proved no obstacle to my pugilistic mission. It turns out using VATS is like riding a bike or pouring yourself a glass of whiskey in the dark. Once you get the hang of it, you never really forget.

By the time I had beaten my third NPC to death, a contingent of patrol robots was upon me. I was no match for their automatic weapons, and they shot me down. Not to be deterred, I rebooted and tried again. This time I darted past the robots and around the corner, where a quiet-looking compound awaited. I readied my glove of hate and made my way toward the entrance. The demo attendant shifted his stance slightly. Luckily, he couldn't speak my language, so he couldn't tell me I was doing it wrong.

The compound was encircled by a metal fence, but the entrance was wide open. A plaque nearby informed me that it was the residence of Ambassador Dennis Crocker, who served at the pleasure of Republic President Aaron Kimball. I tried to have a pleasant conversation with the guards, but they refused to speak my language. So I pulled up VATS with a tap of the right bumper and dumped all my available AP into a series of rib-cracking punches.

Four glorious crunching sounds later, and they were both down, skulls shattered in an explosion of blood and viscera. As I was looting their bodies for things whose descriptions I couldn't read, Demo Guy backed away. He must have realized he couldn't help me now. I was too far gone.

With the guards incapacitated, I pushed my way into the building. The fight outside had depleted my AP, so I went in swinging in real-time. I took out the gunners first, closing in tight and slamming my spiked fist into their faces as quickly as I could. There was enough English scattered randomly throughout the PIP Boy menus that I navigated my way toward some Stimpaks and popped them mid-battle. By that time my AP was full again so I doled it out strategically, taking out the strong ones first and then mopping up the weak.

Somewhere between seeing Ambassador Crocker's name on the plaque and busting into his compound I had decided I wanted him dead. And I'm assuming I succeeded, because I smashed the brains of everyone in the building. But because I couldn't talk to any of my victims, I had no way of knowing which of the poor dead bastards was Crocker. I pondered his fate as I strolled out of the compound and into a waiting phalanx of attack robots. They ended me in seconds, but I had gotten what I came for.

I realize I haven't given you any new information about Fallout: New Vegas, no thanks to the language barrier. I don't know where I was, who I met or what the point of the Japanese demo was. But I can tell you this. Fallout: New Vegas feels comfortingly similar to its predecessor. Even with the story, context and dialogue stripped away, New Vegas pulled me back in to the world of the Wasteland, even if it was just to beat everyone senseless for a few minutes.

Those are just the teaser trailers Zaph :)

The blue moon one has been around for months. Good though.

I'm just really worried about the female super mutants. They were in very early screens but then they vanished. Which would be sad because they looked utterly hilarious.

Mind you it does seem that they're holding a lot of stuff back with this one which means lots of nice surprises :)

Haha, just realised they stole the idea for their opening burial sequence from Casino (the bit where Pesci and his brother get buried alive).

Really looking forward to this. I noticed that Game and Gamestation seem to be the only robdogs who are selling the collector's edition, and also note that said edition is twenty FUCKING quid cheaper for the PS3 than either the PC or 360 version. Rubbish. I've ordered the purdy hardback edition of the guide, though. The one for Fallout 3 was very good indeed.
