Hi,

I have just come back from Spain having drawn out more cash on my card than I needed (150 Euros). What is the best and most profitable way of exchanging this back to Sterling? Preferably, in Manchester. I've never done this before; I figured it was a bad idea to do it at the airport on the way back as they'd have terrible exchange rates, and it would be best to wait until I got back home so I could ask the BETEO hive mind.

Ta!

Depending on a.) whether you need the money, now, in Sterling, and b.) you intend to return to Spain or another Eurozone country, I'd consider keeping the money uncoverted as Euros! My girlfriend keeps her Euro 'surplus' after ever trip to Germany (or elsewhere), because she knows she will need Euros again some point in the future, and will Sterling ever losing its value over time, it doesn't make financial sense to keep converting back and forth.

If you can find a Marks and Spencer that has a Bureau de Change inside, they don't charge commission on currency exchanges.

Best method I have always found is - Establish which friend is going to the same 'country' next, and come to a commercial arrangement, excluding fees, between the two of you.

Post office don't charge commission but I think they give you a bloody awful exchange rate.

I'd be in the "hang onto it" camp unless you're desperate for cash sponds now.

Money from foreign is of no real value and if you come back with any you are doing it wrong. Exchange @ Marks or Post Office as suggested.

That's kind of assuming we won't join the Euro eventually. ;)

For something as versatile as the Euro, I'd keep it unless you needed it to pay the rent or avoid imminent starvation.

:this:

It certainly would help anyway.

I looked at the Post Office/Marks and Sparks websites and their exchange rates are shite. I'll ask around if anyone I know wants to buy them off me for their imminent hols. I don't think I'm gonna be in Europe until maybe late summer, if not next year, so don't really want it sat around doing nothing useful when I drew it off my CC.
