I know there are some other Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD owners here, so I thought I'd save you bother and frustration of trying to figure this out...

When I connected my PC up to the screen via HDMI, the picture was extremely distorted with a blurry image and with obvious signs of overscan (big thick borders around the central image). I spent a lot of time dicking about with the display driver - including uninstalling, rolling back etc etc - but nothing worked.

As it turned out, it was actually the screen at fault. Handily enough this isn't mentioned in the manual, but what you have to do is go to Source > Tools > Edit Name select the HDMI port your PC is connected to > press "right" to go to the selection list and select "PC" (or DVI-PC if you don't want sound going along the HDMI cable). The manual describes doing this as "mak[ing] your input source selection easier", but what it also must do is set some HDMI identification protocol parameters because as soon as I did this the image went from being pretty much unusable to perfection.

Aye, for some reason I just flowed straight into the right option when I got mine. 'tis a bit confusing though.

Definitely. It's a really nice screen, has a load of ports on it and it was so cheap - I think I paid £200 for it!
