I want one like this one, with six buttons.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trust-14590-GM- ... 983&sr=8-9

Is it a bit cheap and nasty though?

I'd really like a stick, but I don't have the space for one, really. Unless there is a programmable stick with autofire and all that, then I could have my mind changed.

Rec! Do!

Hah, I was just about to ask this in the Mame thread. Although I'm pretty sure I want a stick rather than a pad.

I love my Wired 360 pad, but you need 6 face buttons, so meh.

How about going back in time to when I got my Hori stick for £19.99.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hori-Officially-Licensed-Fighting-Stick/dp/B000V02P6Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1269425717&sr=1-1 £45 now, ouch.

It looks the shizniss, but "The plastic is thin, the arcade stick is light and it is easy to break. I would strongy advise nobody to buy this, there are much better arcade sticks available for PS2/Xbox/PC." :S

Can't believe the Hori stick is so expensive now! *spunks on his*

They went up to £90 when SF4 was released!

Do you need 6 face buttons ? , and do you have any old console pads around or was there any particular console system you've used in the past that had a pad you really like ?

There are plenty of USB dongles which will allow you to connect old pads to your system and use them as pc sticks (i have 2 different ones - one uses any PS2 pad the other takes N64 pads).

Oh and if its something basic then HMV have the streetfighter 'fightpads' for £14.99 and they are okay (and have 6 face buttons)

Yeah, I think so. I've always disliked 4-button pads for six-button fighter games.

However, I am now leaning more toward the stick option.

Sticks are great the disadvantages are :

Storage
Time and complexity to setup and use (depending on stick)
Cost

If you are going to get a stick i'd suggest *now* before Super SFIV comes out and they all go to really silly money again.

I have an X-Arcade which has a USB connection so you just plug it in and is great for anything MAME or old console related - I'm tempted by the 360 convertor for it but it looks to be a real faff to get going (you need the PS2 converter which i have plus a special xbox converter plus a wired xbox pad for it to work)

His post reminded me that I've got a Cube arcade stick tucked away (god knows what game I bought that for) and even a wireless Saturn arcade stick too I think. I might have to see if I've got a GC>USB adaptor somewhere.

Ooh, I got one of those ages ago. It was completely shit, sadly. Feels nothing like a decent arcade stick, and quite a lot like that imprecise, unmicroswitched, ultra-plasticky feel the (older, crappier) official Saturn sticks had.

Is the Hori EX2 worth getting? I'm sorely tempted to get one for 360/PC fun, and do love my old Saturn Fighting stick and its lovely clunky feel.

Will a USB Saturn pad do? There's loads on Ebay and they look pretty nice. I always liked the Saturn pad.

I do have a Namco arcade stick from the PSone days and that's excellent! It's sturdy metal, got perfect micro switches and it's a hefty beast. I think it cost £50 back in the day but I (borrowed) it when I worked at Game.

Hmm.. I might have. If no-one else shouts up, I'll have a look through my stuff when I get home from work.

I was looking for my Competition Pro last night. It was a fluorescent green and pink one that I got free for subscribing to Commodore Format.
Unfortunately it seems to have disappeared :(

Anyway, 9-pin joystick to USB adaptors don't seem to be available and I can't be bothered to hack something up.

There are compy-pro looking USB sticks on Amazon but the reviews all say they're utter shite.

Meh. I'll have a look in the charity shops on the way home, I'm determined not to waste more than a tenner on this.

I'm near 100% certain that Commodore Format stick was actually a Powerplay Cruiser, the stick of kings, and not a comp pro. If it had adjustable stiffness (!) it's a Cruiser.

Yeah, I hear the USB comp pros have lag problems and such, which is a damn shame as the new model with the 'classic' connector I have is fantastic and wipes the floor with my original stick.

I'm building my next joystick myself using the PCB from one of those shitey £10 Madcatz arcade sticks. Now that I've a diagram of what all the connections are it's just getting started that's the problem :DD

Don't forget extra rubber nipples for grip, Wullie.

I forgave the repetition the first time it happened ;)

Just settled on one of those MadCatz SF4 SE sticks. Wasn't much more expensive than what the Horis are going for now, and apparently the moving parts can be popped out and replaced with no fuss or soldering, in case I later decide to turn into one of those people who must have swish Sanwa parts like I'm actually anywhere near good enough to appreciate the improvement. Or, more likely, if I break half the buttons like a big spacker.

I got the joypad version, with a picture of Cammy on it (she was cheapest).

I'm toying with getting one of these Sega Saturn styled USB Joypads: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trks ... Categories

If they're anything like the original Saturn pad they should be excellent... although it might actually be cheaper to get an original Saturn pad and a USB adapter.

Correct me if I am wrong here but they are the original Saturn pads.. :D

Very nice. Might have to invest in one of those seeing as I have a large selection of Sega PC stuff.

And that should sort out Grim's problem.

Arrrrggghh! Struggling to remember here, but I think the Saturn (proper) pre-dates USB (1.0) by a couple of years, so those controllers were some proprietary Sega format. I think Sega went on to release a USB pad styled on the Saturn pad for PC/MAC/USB Kitchen Sinks, so where it says original there it probably means "made by Sega" rather than "made by some Chinese knock-off outfit".

It would appear my memory is faulty. I've got two Dreamcasts adaptors but they are for using other controllers with the Dreamcast rather than using Dreamcast controllers with PCs... sorry!

I just stumbled across this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0037LX380/

Word on shoryuken.com is that it's a perfectly adequate stick, but if you want to mod it with proper arcade parts then it's fairly straightforward to do. (that's a different brand of joystick but it's confirmed to be the same as the Datel.)

My Mad Catz stick finally arrived today. Sweet jesus it's huge, I can only imagine what the full-size tournament edition is like. Feels fantastic in use, and a quick bout on SSF2HD had me throwing shoryukens around like a mad thing. Have yet to try it on my MAME setup, but first impressions are excellent.
