Saw this last night, really interesting and its quite a spectacle to see the numerous types of swarms in action.

unlike the tedious writer interviews. Please don't tell me it got better, cos I gave up after 30 minutes of self-important bollocks about the 'craft' of writing and some wanker being a dick to people he'd employed to MAKE HIM WORK!

Didn't I do this thread that was resolutely ignored not long ago? True, the opening recommendation was an obscure niche interest short black and white film about a steam engine being caught in a snow drift in the 60's, but the message still was apparent - iplayer = awesome!

Heartbreakingly, it is no longer available. Maybe YouTube might have it. I realise my skoolboy errur now, and will have more 'dynamic' titles with the word iplayer in them from now on. :bulb:

It's a cracking instance of what made the old documentary's so good. Completely devoid of any criticism or penetration naturally, but a wonderful visual poem instead. Plus some ace shots, like when the locomotive snow plough hits the drift and flings tons of snow up in the air a good two dozen feet. It's the sort of thing you watch curled up under a blanket with some whiskey or tea, thankful that you're indoors and not out. It's also fascinating to see just how bad the snows were in the UK. And the Beeb and the trains and people getting pifflingly panicky when 2 to 4 cms falls, well how about four feet motherfuckers?

So yes, watch this, it's pretty good. And only ten minutes long.

For future such gems, I would like to mention that I record onto VHS tape- ED everything that I watch on TV, which will probably mainly be recommendations from here, so you might be able to borrow these from me - ED by receipt of SAE - ED through the Royal Mail postal service - ED

As would I. One of the very best films I've ever seen.

Treeeeeeeemendously good.

Saw it at the cinema, somewhat un-enthusiastically, because the GF is fluent in german, so likes to go see foriegn language films, regardless of quality. But blown away by how good it was.

Did anybody watch Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man last night?

It's a three-part series covering his 43 Marathons in 51 days feat. This one starts in London and sees him run all the way into Wales and over the Brecon Beacons. Absolutely incredible, stupidly admirable stuff.

Also, I just found out what ‘Series Catchup’ means on the iPlayer site. Always assumed it was old things re-broadcast, but I was incredibly wrong.

I'm currently watching Horizon: Is everything we know about the universe wrong? and true to most Horizon programmes, it's excellent, and true to most physics programmes, utterly baffling.

I think Horizon might be one of my top series ever.

I watched that earlier today. It was quite good (though I do find Horizon to be a bit hit and miss). To be fair I had read most of the 'new' ideas before. The one thing that bugged me was the female cosmologist/physicist/mathmetician (I can't remember what she was, so lackluster an impression did she make) - what exactly was the point of her being on the program?

"Nah, don't like the idea - don't understand it". "No idea what that's about". "Too confusing, can't be bothered". "I hate it, make it go away!"

Interestingly running along the main road next to Miss Malabar's house, where he bumps into a couple of local lads who run alongside him, predictably complaining about the theft and gang culture in the area. BBC have for some reason decided to hoy this Jessica Hynes and Julia Davies Dark Comedy in a late night slot on a saturday on BBC2 the loons.

Just aswell iplayer is about.
