I didn't like Halo 3 when I got my Xbox 360. It came with it and I played through the campaign to see what the fuss was about. I came away completely underwhelmed and in fact a little bit annoyed because I didn't understand why people praised it so highly. I'd always played FPSes on the PC where they were easier to control and graphically superior to console shooters. Oh, and you could play online back in the mid to late 90s, which was a plus. I admit I've never played Halo 1 or 2, because the original Xbox is the only console since the NES that I didn't bother buying, so I never caught the initial wave that seemed to impress everybody. I'd played Half Life and its sequel and laughed at the Halo fans.

Then I played a bit of online with you guys - Rocket Race and stuff, and it started to make a little bit more sense. Then I ignored it for a couple of years and came back to it late last year when a few of us went through the campaign on co-op. Then I realised what the fuss was about. It's great. Anyone who hasn't played it, should.

Because of this, I was already excited about Reach, then I saw this video and got a massive hard-on:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0_jiB2hqeQ

Watch it in HD if you can.

So, anyone else excited?

Yeah looks great, although I'm more excited by the campaign than the multiplayer.

I was under the impression if you're not Master Chief then it's not a 'proper' Halo game. I expect they'll do Halo 4 (H4lo) at some point.

You can see his legs. You're a SPARTAN before the time of the Chief. You hang out with other SPARTANs and generally kick anus. Graphics look pretty fucking nice as well, which is good because Halo 3 looks like a PS2 game.

The thing that always bothered me about Halo, is the fact that the majority of the enemies I faced were those little things that would rather run away than fight.

I prefer my shooters with a bit of "grit"

Still.. Halo Reach does look nice! I've no doubt I'll be suckered into it.

The grunts are brilliant. They say funny stuff and the Grunt Birthday Party skull simply does not get old.

DBSnappa and I played a bit of co-op today, and it felt downright wrong to NOT have Grunt Birthday Party on (but he doesn't have that skull yet)

I really enjoyed that yesterday. Makes me more determined to play through it to the end now.

Seeing the paltry takeup of the excellent ODST around here I won't be holding my breath for many other players come release.

I like the deathmatches, but the campaign sucks. I have better ways to spend my life, like watching paint dry,

I will upgrade if enough people on here get it and the multiplayer maps are good.

As I've discovered recently, the best way to play the campaign is with buddies in coop. It's a much much better game that way.

AFAIK he doesn't need it as long as he's in a lobby with someone that does have it. Not sure if it appears or not, but it should be selectable anyway.

They're talking ODST. Chinny doesn't have vanilla halo 3, and myp has most certainly completed halo 3, but not loaded odst.

Yes, get the ODOM(BAD) edition*. It comes with full Halo 3 multiplayer and all the DLC on a separate disc. You can always borrow a copy of Halo 3 should you want to play the campaign.

* only you will get that

Another new video thing from the developers - definitely worth watching, barring the slightly forced excessive use of swearing (bleeped out of course).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvLFCBcJS2M - Probably best to watch it in HD if you can be arsed.

Also, there's going to be three different SKUs available. A hefty one with plastic tat, a mid-range one with some in-game tat and the regular vanilla version.

Pics here: http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx ... &cid=25773

Apparently the plastic tat one will retail at £100, the middle one £59.99 and the regular one at regular price.

Quote:
Microsoft’s confirmed the Legendary Edition of Halo: Reach will cost £100 when it releases in the UK.

The prices were announced in a press release a while ago.

The pack will include the contents of the Limited Edition – which includes collectables and in-game armor, as well as special packaging for it for £59.99 – plus a sculpture of Noble 6 and more in-game armor and a unique cover of its own.

The announcement came earlier today after an earlier report outed the three versions.

I'm hoping they don't do what they did with the Halo 3 beta and make it match making only. I'm only interested in playing with my chums.

I never get really excited by Halo games. The love only erupts once in the lobby with bezzies.

Also: That ZOMFG edition looks shite.

Have you watched vid, Zardoz? It does look really ace. I can't wait to get the bezzies involved, though. The number of game modes they're adding is pretty big, combined with all of the classic modes and, of course, the ability for people to make their own modes = lots of fun.

And yeah, didn't you get a cool Master Chief helmet with Halo 3? Rather than a rubbish-y set of figurines on a rock.

I found it a little dry, like a Boxing Day turkey sandwich on unbuttered bread. BUT played with bezzies it's like the same sandwich but buttered and with stuffing, cranberry and mayo, washed down with a nice cup of tea.

It's like that trick! You know! The cracker one with the butter on the underside of the cracker! Or is it three crackers? In a minute? Butter!

It goes down easier if your crackers are buttered underneath?
