Hello folks, Grim... here. I can't normally edit posts like this, but I've given myself permission for a brief time to warn you that if you watch the following video, you will be watching a man die, so proceed with caution.

Making potential viewers aware that they were about to see a man die was my main concern.

I sometimes think standards are dropping around here. At the very least it should have been flagged. :attitude:

You only really properly get to see him die if you watch the slow motion replays. I'd be tempted not to watch any luge if this is the sort of thing one doesn't want to see. Seriously, when the word luge is used with the words gah and fuck, did anyone think it was going to be video - liveleak video no less - of someone having an embarrassingly slow run, or maybe breaking a toe?

Mods can flag it if they want to but an animated gif of this will be someone's avatar on a thousand forums come tomorrow morning. I'd imagine /b/ is already thriving.

Fucking ouch. That's the winter Olympics off to a distressing start.
Still, how fucking fast do those folks go, fuck me! And with no real protection either - mentalists.

Luge has always struck me as a sport in the same way Russian roulette might be considered one. I suppose we can be grateful we don't see more of this sort of business. It is meant to be a fucking mental track that, though.

Luge is crazy, you'd have to be crazy to do it, and this just goes to show how skilled the competitors are that we don't just have them all flying off the track into poles and dying instantly.

I'd like to thank Grim... for intervening there; I really have no interest in watching people die, by their own or others' choice. That sort of thing really needs flagging by the poster, just as NSFW does.

When you click the link it comes up in big red letters saying 'Fatal Crash Video' in the title, said crash is a good way into the footage. No-one gets to see anything ropey unless they choose to.

At least he died doing what he loved. Hurtling down an icy mountain on top of a biscuit tin lid.

Biscuit tin lid?! You were lucky. We had to use extra thick back skin that out Dad used to flay off us every night.

Luxury! We used to have to make our own luge course by standing on top of a hill on a cold night and wanking on the ground until our special sauce created a large enough slick. And if we weren't finished before sunrise our Dad used to seal the end of our shafts with a hot poker.

Wrong. The video starts playing automatically on my computer and you'd have to specifically read that bit of text on a very busy page.

Thanks to Grim... for applying the common sense you seem to have taken leave of.

I saw this last night. Man.. The poor bastard comes to a dead stop from what? gotta be 60 mph +?

Very sad.

When I watched it though I could sort of tell he was going too fast.

Well he certainly didn't suffer, that's for sure. A quicker death you probably couldn't have.

If someone can find a quicker death than that, I'd be impressed.

Here's a non-fatal bicycle crash caused by a girl saying 'hoo hoo' to even things out a little, anyway. It's the third hoo hoo that gets me.

The video has been removed, anyway.

Though I didn't get chance to see it, speaking from experience of hitting things at speed, he wouldn't have felt a thing: bit of a thud, then you wake up or don't.

Even if it starts automatically, you've still got a good minute before the crash. I don't buy your 'busy text' excuse. It's the bloody title, right above the video.

OK chaps, problem averted now isn't it? Thank you Grim... for sorting out the warning. Please bear it in mind next time GY.

In terms of the accident, I hadn't heard about it, but when I was surfing through the Sky channels on the xbox last night I stumbled across a programme, on Eurosport possibly, which consisted solely of luge / bobsleigh accidents and then motorcycle racing accidents.

Depressingly true. I cannot comprehend not waking up afterwards and being able to go over it in my mind. The mere thought that suddenly you realize something's happening and a split second later everything stops, forever, is something I am just unable to make 'work' in my head.

Indeed. That's death in general, though: it's difficult to comprehend something when you automatically take the stance of 'How will this feel?' and the gloomy answer is 'It won't.'

That's not death in general. A long protracted illness where your body's eating itself from inside will be agony. Panic from drowning or suffocation will be horrific. Slowly bleeding to death. Etc etc.
