Hello - it's about that time again. So, we'll have an election, if you folks want one. There's been a fair bit of moaning in the past about the faff and palaver of it all, so we're leaving it up to you.

If you want there to be an election for the three mod positions, let us know - either in here, or via PM, for whatever reason. Otherwise we'll smugly rest assured that the reins of power sit firmly in our grasp carry on as before, and ask again in sixth months time.

Let us know, 'k?

Election is on. PM the mods before 10pm Monday 15th if you want to stand, and please PM or post in here if you're willing to be a vote counter. We'll then run the election until 10pm Friday 19th.

I'm not particularly arsed about it to be honest. I don't want to be a mod and I don't think the current mods need swapping. BUT, this is a democratic forum and there should be a mod election. I don't think it should be a case of "post here if you want an election", there should be one whether people can be arsed or not. I mean, if there isn't one, it's almost certain to cause some sort of argument somewhere along the line. How about making one of the options in the election "retain the current mod setup", which forgoes your (was it three?) votes and only lets you vote for that one option. Then, if more people choose that option than the number of people who choose regular voting, we keep the current mods.

I don't want to go all (West Bromwich - Ed) on you, but either we have an election or decide once and for all that this is a dictatorship.

Even if an election re-affirms the status quo (which it will and that's cool) the fact is that this forum was setup with some basic principles. I'd like to see this principles upheld and have it shown that we have confidence in our mods instead of there being problems with the mod that were bubbling under the surface like the place we used to hang out.

I do think though that once we get this election out of the way, they should go yearly instead unless someone steps down though.

In short, lets do it but after this it goes yearly unless someone flounces quits.

Yeah, agreed with Chinny as well. We've been here a while now and yearly seems about right.

Exactly. Imagine if Brown turns around in May and declares that he doesn't really think we need an election.

We determined a timeframe, perhaps that timeframe is too short, but we can't just go around bending the rules because a few people can't be bothered spending 5 seconds clicking a tick box.

And is it really more tedious than another PC building thread?

I don't want to be a mod.

I have no problem with the current mods.

I like the idea of a yearly election.

That is all.

Also, for all we know someone might really want to be a mod but might just go along with not having an election because they don't want to upset anyone.

Well indeed - that's why I said people were more than welcome to PM rather than state it here.

That's not very transparent though, is it? You could be cooking up all sorts of evil schemes by PM.

Indeed. It was only last week I asked a moderator if Myp could be replaced with an exact robot replica. I wouldn't have minded but when the aforementioned mod replied, he told me not only was my bidding done but he'd also bumped off Myp.

This is not what I wanted. I wanted him imprisoned like Rimmer on Rimmerworld. Not dead.

This is what happens when you use PM's.

Your will, peons!

So, we'll aim for a quick turnaround, but the same rules as before. PM the mods before 10pm Monday 15th to stand for election, and please also indicate via PM or in here if you are willing to be a vote counter (two will be chosen).
After that deadline, we'll run the voting until 10pm Friday 19th.

I'll update the first post accordingly.

BeeX, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for
With a forum to call my own
I'll never be alone
And you, my forum, will see
You've got a freak in me
(you've got a freak in me)

BeeX, you're always flouncing here and there
You feel you're not wanted anywhere
If you ever look behind
And don't like what you find
There's one thing you should know
It's Craster and he'll go
(It's Craster and he'll go)

I used to say "hmmph" and "meh"
Now it's "LOLZ", now it's "Yeah!"
I used to say "Wii" and "Slick"
Now it's "Whatever", now it's "Dick"
BeeX, most people would turn you away
I don't listen to a word they say
They don't see you as I do
I wish they would try to
I'm sure they'd think again
If they had a forum like BeeX
(a forum) Like BeeX
(like BeeX) Like BeeX

I like to think that hidden away in the grand palace of mods is a small sanctum containing a few obscure snacks, a Scottish flag, and a golden joystick, all waiting ready for the grand return.

Might consider. I like the idea of getting a credible score but not quite enough to actually become a mod. Thereby ego satisfied and no work needs doing. What's not to like?

Or I might just come last in which case I'll pretend it's all OK but flounce off at some other issue at the first opportunity.

Ha Gaywood is in LUUUURVE and thinking of moving to Fannyvania, so he'd be no good even if he swapped the letters of the syllables of his surname.

Has it really been 6 months already since the last sham of an election? Anyway, despite the good sense spoken by Chinny and the fact that I've been warned about coming here during work time, I'm still going to shout:

VOTE ALBIN0 FOR MOD, HE WILL HEAL ALL ILLS!!!*

*and replace them with different ones

Warned by whom? That's pretty funny.

A Vote for Alberto is a Vote for a Part-Time Mod.

An over-officious boss. He's in a meeting now though :p

And a bad part-time mod is actually better than a bad full-time mod.

Maybe we could set up some sort of "specials"? A group of members who deputise for mods when they get a dose of the ghey? Would give new blood a chance to get some experience for the day when the current mods give up the ghost. Maybe the name is a little too apt though...
