I'm sort of thinking that instead, or as well as this "pick a game" system, we could "pick a person" (well, take it in turns) and that person, on the night, chooses what game everyone will be playing, and organises the lobby and that, based on who shows up.

Might be worth a try, it could energise things a bit.

I like this. LIVE KING could be a weekly volunteer, the good thing being that you get to choose the game, the cost being that it's LIVE KING's responsibility to ensure he turns up on time, sends out invites, and sets up the lobby.

Sold.

OK, but where can we all moan loads if it's a game we don't like (or don't have)?

As someone that turns up on live at irregular intervals, I have to say that this is a really good idea - even if I probably won't be joining in that often (but hey, by all means fling me an invite if I'm online).

If its one you dont have theres no reason the invite post cant say where you can pick up the game , and if its decided far enough in advance some people may buy it ?

So if the game is picked by the weekend and you ordered it on Monday it would be with you for THORsday

Good idea, but I'll pass. I only play with other people coincidentally, usually. I've never been one for planning ahead with the things I do for fun.

So you're not coming to Manchester? You never book tickets to see a band or to go to the cinema?

You buy train tickets at the station?!?!?

I'm currently en route to Fife (fast become my sanctuary after traumatic events). I packed my xbox and carefully considered what games to bring. My hand paused over UT3 wistfully for a few seconds before passing by, thinking it's not going to get an outing.
So if this happens and Mr Dave is the man in the hot seat I will be so mad if you don't wait til I get home (next Friday). I really want a big game of UT3 again!
I also whole heartedly agree with Zaphods suggestion of plenty of advance notice since I wanted to buy GTA IV for the Mp this week but didn't have a chance so I would certainly consider purchasing games that were getting a couple of multiplayer events.

You misunderstand. LIVE KING picks the night and the game, then sets up the lobby and invites everyone. If you're on and want to play, you join in.

A great example , I dont have UT3 , right now i have *no* intention of buying it given my queue of games to play , however if someone said "right we're all getting together next Friday to play UT3" then i think its about a tenner from Blockbusters - i'd go and pick it up.

If someone said "tonights gamenight is UT3" - then I cant play.

Timing is another issue through the week - I'm normally on from about 8:30 - till a little after 11:00 since i need to get up early in the mornings - i know other people struggle to get on before 10 or 11

The thing is though that UT3 is shite and is played by shitlings.

And so, for that reason, I'm oot.

So it's pretty much the same as normal, except there's no signup and no obligation to actually play and the whole thing is decided by one person each week. Okay then.

Yup - and the key thing is that there's someone to be mother on the night, which is what's often missing now.

I think the thing is with Horde mode, it's a maximum of 4 (or is it 5) players? So that is best with a small hand-picked group.
No reason you can't start a second match though..

Horde is definitely best, and it's a damn shame when there are slightly too many people to play it, but not enough to set up two lobbies.

I'm almost always up for Horde, though I haven't played it in a long, long time.
