Over the last year, my friend Ben and I have been talking about making a proper bona fide print magazine based on our web site Talk About The Passion.

Basically, a magazine full of trivia stuff and interesting articles that you didn't know you were interested in until you started reading them. I guess a bit like Wikipedia's interesting article of the day, but edited to only include interesting subjects.

Attachment:
Issue 1 Promo.pdf

The PDF here is an extract from the full magazine, and I was wondering if anyone would like to purchase a copy. It's something I've personally worked hard on, as I did all the layout and artwork. If you would like a copy, please send me a PM on here. The total cost is £3 including postage and packaging. We're kind of taking pre-orders first so that we don't print too many and end up losing money.

If you don't want to order a lovely glossy magazine, then you can enjoy the above PDF for free. And um, let me know your gentle comments as well please!

I'll have a proper read this evening, but I've had a quick glance. You really need to give the elements on the page a bit of breathing room, a bit of white space. Everything is all a bit too cramped at the moment, with little in the way of margins. The word spacing is a little extreme, too, making my eyes bounce around as I read it.

Either way, I wish you success, and I'll have an actual read later so I cab give proper feedback rather than quick glances at the design.

How would one give you £3?

Malabar: cheers. I have actually got a print copy of the full thing and it looks ace but I will put more whitespace in for issue 2 (already in production. Heh). We had a look at a lot of existing magazines to get a layout we were happy with.

Lave: cheers. Don't need any money off you at the minute, just a name to add to the list. We'll probably just end up using paypal eventually though, or direct bank transfer for the more trusting.

You can stick my name on the list for a copy, although it needs more Roland Rat.

Righto chaps and chapesses!

Thanks ever so for the loving comments so far. I've put up an ordering page at http://www.tatp.org/

It takes Google Checkout, so it's all secure and fraud free and that, plus you're covered if we just take your money and run away.
If you do still want to do payment another way (such as instant bank transfer, which doesn't have nasty fees) then you can still PM me.

Otherwise, that link again is http://www.tatp.org/
Help us make issue 1 a success!

Those that have asked for it to be signed will get it signed. Signed up GOOD!

It's 20p + 3% using Google Checkout.
If you want to use direct transfer, I'll PM you my details. Just let me know your address.

Can you PM me your bank account number and sortcode please mate? (For a completely unrelated scam I've got going.)

It's just as easy for me to transfer the money over and that way you don't have to make the rich richer.

Thank you guys if you've placed an order so far.

I'll just ask you to be patient while the batch comes back from the printers. Yay!

If you haven't ordered one yet, and still want one, please see http://www.tatp.org or PM me your address and I'll PM my bank details back for direct transfer.

Right, first batch has been shipped, so those of you that have placed orders should have had a confirmation e-mail or PM.

It would be cool to see photos of you reading the mag in a natural habitat when it arrives, so post them in here.

Similarly, if it doesn't arrive, shout up quick.

Awesome stuff. Please do post your pic. We're thinking about putting together a compilation for the back page of issue 2.

I've worked out that we only have to sell another four copies to break even, so thank you to everyone for your support, you've been awesome. And I know words on a screen can't really convey that but it's been really fun to make, and to have a fair bit riding on it like this gives me confidence to carry on.

Cheers!

I haven't read my copy yet (it arrived at the same time as my new Land Rover magazine and only a day before my Kindle) but Mrs Grim... liked it.

Hooray for me not having to revive my own thread!

http://www.tatp.org/blog/?p=2491 is the link to the post containing the download link for Issue 2, but you are correct Grim..., and I will look at putting up a more prominent Download link.

So please all visit http://www.tatp.org and download Issue 2 for FREE. It's a bit like Issue 1, but more up to date! We're going to do a print version, if we get enough interest, and will announce something shortly.

Long story why print version is not available straight away:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
For getting a magazine printed on demand with no cost to yourselves, you're stuck using something like magcloud or lulu. Unfortunately, for a three pound magazine, the shipping is more than the cover price. So we thought for Issue 1 we would take pre-orders, order a bulk amount, and lessen the hit of the shipping costs to individuals. This actually ended up being a foolish idea because people put their name down for a mag, or showed interest, and then never came through. As a result we have a significant amount of Issue 1 left that we had to pay for without seeing a return (yet).

Printers are also really picky about image resolution. Currently the PDF images are only suitable for web use, and not of a good enough resolution to print, so better quality images need sourcing before we print Issue 2.

Blimey. Only took 5 months to make a print version. Anyway, if you liked Issue 2 in PDF form and now want it in bathroom floor-decorating print form for just £3 delivered please let me know. If you bought issue 1, your name is in it*

Due to having some of Issue 1 left I have decided on a special offer of £5 for both issue 1 and Issue 2 delivered. Please PM me if you want either issue 1, issue 2 or both and I'll get them in the post the next morning.

Issue 3: soon!

*Rev Owen bought one which made me a bit teary when I re-read it.

Thank you.

There's a line in a a Jonathan Coulton song that says "you should start a magazine / even if it never makes a dime."

We sort of took that to heart, because it's fun.

It's PDF only for now. FREE PDF because it was all Christmas stuff. That's why there's no buy link for that one, but maybe if there's demand at some point.

And cheers for the order!

Ha!

Made 4 in the end. Print runs of issues 12 and 4, whilst issues 3 was a PDF Christmas only issue (for free if I remember correctly).

I since had a falling out/drifting apart with the other person who ran it though, and we haven't spoken for about 4 years.
